Don't the leather pads utterly degrade the sound quality? Suprised you didn't picked up on that

I guess it's a balance between comfort and sound. In reality that sit on the ear so the leather doesn't make much of a difference when there is so much sound / air pressure leakage. I didn't think it was much of a problem and they still magical sound the same, rich excited bass, muddy mid range rolled off treble. I'm using ATH-R70X with leather sheep skin pads now so these are my backup / jogging / tourist set.

does the porta pro headband clamp on to the ears more than the original ear clamps? I'm looking for as much clamp as possible.

They clamp exactly the same, probably made in the same factory from the same moulds. I found that the 3rd party altered magnetic cable design I bought from Amazon seller didn't clip properly but that's not an official koss product, it's an Asian clone designed to make the koss more modern / flexible.
