He's absolutely right.......they are great headphones, the sound is great on the Koss headphone but they are not durable..........the wire that goes into the volume control comes loose and you lose sound on one side of the phones..........so be careful using these.

Back in 2007 on a school trip to vienna I bought a pair of very cheap 4,95€ KOSS headphones. They were a bit smaller than the ones you have. I remember how amazed I was by their sound quality. Previously I had used a pair of very cheap no name speakers that sounded horrible. Unfortunately the KOSS headphones broke when I threw them on my desk...

DrCassette Koss has always been good. I had those too. I had those earplug ones too and the stereo headphones. 2006-2008 good ones for the price. Ofc i had porta pros too that are probably the best headphones for the price.

Koss headphones would be much better if they just replaced the cords with higher quality ones. Luckily kiss headphones are easily moddable

I'm using Skull Candy now but as for frequency response, they are definitely not "flat". A must if you use headphones for mixing. If money is not a concern but true flatness is the you want Sennhieser. By the way, Koss is always good for what you pay for them. I used to have a set of Sony "Digital Ready" headphones but lost them.

I feel quite regretful for not getting a pair of these headphones sooner, the clarity of sound and balance compared to my standard earbuds is really surprising! In my opinion they're really comfortable since these headphones are light and the earpieces have a good angle to align to the shape of your head.

If ever you have headphones that are tight when you buy them, sticking them around a basketball overnight works wonders. Just be careful not to break the band! I've used this method several times with a lot of success on everything from cheap Sony headphones to a set of Sennheisers.

Have you given the PortaPros a look? I paid $35 for mine, and they're still going strong, 4 years later, despite me stepping on them, sitting on them, and abusing them. I know they're more than double the price, but they have some damned good sound quality for the price, as well.

I got a Sentry HO885 from Big Lots for $10. That also has a volume control, which is not a slide type but more of a thumbwheel (or whatever you may call it). I happen to have the specs for it - here are some of them: Driver Unit: 40mm; Sensitivity: 120dB +/- 3dB; Frequency: 20 - 20,000 Hz. Rather good base, maybe better than those $1 headphones. Only a bit annoying at about 3kHz, but not bad once I get the volume just right. Maybe Sentry is a good cheap brand.

Nice review! I've found that so many of the lesser headphones tend to lack treble, or it's very muted above the mids. These don't seem to do that, but those Radio Shack 'phones do sound rather tinny, the Koss much fuller sounding, but without attenuating the treble much, if at all. I have the RS Optimus Novas 71 'phones I bought a decade ago, and they do lack the treble to a fair extent, thus sound dull, even on my good stereo.

I had a nice pair of Koss headphones one time and I think they broke. Then I bought the RadioShack Pro35 titanium driver headphones and there was always something wrong with them they either broke or buzzed when playing bass songs. I now have a nice $5 pair of Coby headphones (Big Lots) and aside from having to replace the cord they are the most durable and best sounding headphones I ever had. The adjustment part broke but nothing a bit or electrical tape couldn't fix.

Even at $70 they are a steal, but I got mine for $30 on bhphoto they had a sale. Amazon does the same thing they slash their prices every once and a while. I actually bought some $200 Sennheisers, but was disgusted at the quality (cracking and popping at on high freqs) returned them and got the mdr's....had them for 3 years now. Amazing purchase.

Ah, gotcha. I got a pair for $50 at my local Fry's, open box. Ended up passing them off to a friend when a friend got me a set of AKGs (K271 MkII) for my birthday. The AKGs are nice but they don't sit well on my head, so I can't wear them for long. Funny that you say this, too, since the ATH-M30s went on sale at Amazon for $36 or so. Bought that pair as quick as I could.

I use to love the koss brand. But the catch was even though they have excellent sound and are easy on the eye, they’re still cheap with a short lifespan. I had a koss stereo that I loved and it looked similar to the Phillips stereos that were popular in the early 2000s except when its on you see the cheap digital screen besides that everything was perfect but 3 years later for no reason and without warning it decided it didn’t want to live another day. 4 years and 133 purchases later I ended my abusive relationship with the koss brand.

WOW! The difference in sound is quite remarkable. By the way, I'm using Koss KTX Pro 1 headphones now. :D I'm having a hard time installing new ear pads on them. Do you just shove it around with a butter knife?
@vwestlife
@vwestlife 8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Nestle The drivers can be popped off using a butter knife or regular screwdriver. They mount with a plastic pin in the middle, so when you're done, just make sure they're positioned right and push firmly in the middle to pop them back in place.

THANKS! I managed to pop off the black plastic covers and install the new ear pads. I'd never done it before and I was wary that everything was so hard to see, I could easily damage the set. Ironically, in looking for information on this, I found a model of Koss headphones I might like even better. (LOL) So I might give this set to a grandchild and get some new ones.

@@chaosdracos Oh really? I got mine for $99 from a HiFi store and i don't think they're that expensive. Of course the price of those cans are more expensive than the KTXPro1 but it is not as expensive as those ultra high-end headphones from Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic.
@chaosdracos

HBC101TV Studios the selling point of these headphones is the price, some people are not gonna spend over 100 on a headset let alone hundreds for a high end pair. 99$ is expensive to some people as well.

Monster headphones are as worse as the older Beats headphones, since Beats headphones used to be manufactured by Monster themselves. IMO, the ATH-M40x performs way more better at the same price.

You say your last pair of Koss headphones lasted you 3 years??? I must be very rough with headphones then, because even if I buy good quality higher priced headphones they never last me a year, I'm very active when listening to music on the go, and I'm always wearing out pairs of headphones left right and centre. I'm serious.

Well Audio-Technica is an amazing company; they pretty much are the bang for your buck company. They have a $70 AT2020 mic that pretty much everyone and there mom uses (amateur all the way up to the pros) It sounds like a $300 mic. IMO the AKGs are all a bit over rated and priced, and they muddle and mash the low-mid frequencies together.

But they are too bassy, since they're really intended for use in a nightclub environment or for bassheads. The ATH M40x sounds great in terms of audio quality since it has a flat frequency response, which is perfect for all-purpose use, from critical music listening all the way to studio tracking / mixing and DJing. And for the price of $99, i really can't complain!
