Glad to see you posting a series on building a in flight Kotare Chris. I've been working on three of four, 1/24 Airfix Mk.Ixcs that will be posed in flight. The design of the propeller shaft from the Kotare kit gave me the idea to fabricate a similar set up using a 3mm stainless steel tube for the drive shaft supported by two sealed bearings to make the prop spin smoothly without wobble at any speed. The multi position stands I made will hide the wires from the plug in adapter. One of the three will be G-IRTY the Silver Spitfire. Decals from, 'Draw Decal'. For the seated pilots, the ICM kit #DS2401 Swat Team are a good choice to modify, especially for the Silver Spit as the helmets and detail are useful in reproducing the modern gear worn. Anyone building a Spitfire model that wants to know more about how High Speed aircraft were prepared and painted, the Australian War Memorial site has a official RAF training film, Streamline Colour worth a watch.

Looking good so far. That cockpit looks much better than the new Italeri Macchi 202 one.

Nice job! Good source of inspiration for one of my future build, the vintage 1:24 scale Airfix Spitfire Mk I.

Great work Chris, I envy your painting skills. I was tossing up whether to buy this model or the Tamiya 1/48 F-35A at the convention last month, I now regret not buying this one... Cheers.

GDay Chris, perfect video for my stage in the starting up again. SO MANY paints to Learn about. The rest of " skills" are coming along Never did get the Kotare and right now I'm angry at ARMA with their bait and switch on the Hurricane. Bit of a rant :-) . Hopefully you're still on vacation and scheduled this before you left. If so this would be first video I've seen in 3rd person :-) I have purchased some ICM kits and figures they are excellent quality for 1/48, the 1/32 look pretty sharp. My last batch had a figure of Adolf Galland. Cheers from the colonies Bob

try a red wash over the face to add some definition and red color to the face.

Nice! One thing, though... A pilot often keeps their head "level" with the horizon, so during a hard left, the head should be somewhat rotated to compensate.

If you got a small monitor for your camera, you could use that as your loop. You would see what you are doing on the monitor at the same time you are recording your video. Not sure what camera you are using, but I'm sure that it has an output on it.

Hi Chris, another good one, thanks. I do not have a Spitfire to look at to check, but my experience in the aircraft industry was that every bit of aluminium alloy was painted in chromate primer (green or yellow) so the bare metal areas are surprising. Mind you, I see on the Kermit weeks channel that the Gerries with their 109s didn't bother with primer after '43 (because they didn't last very long!) and when he was crawling through the back of a Mossie (wooden) where it was all green inside. My experience was in peace time when corrosion is the enemy but perhaps the exigencies of war cause a slight change of attitude. That aside, I like your detailing techniques, ie shaddow painting etc so please show us more. As an aside, when you mentioned "dry brushing", Bob Ross (of the happy little trees) came to mind.

They weren't bare metal - they used an aluminium paint. Primer in the RAF at that time tended to be light grey, not chromate.
