I have to give this one to Madflex. He bodied in all three rounds and Award came hard in the first two and even freestyled some lines which was dope but he lost in the third. He clowned, then got personal which was smooth but then he transitioned again and it was like “wait, what?” then he tried to get aggressive one last time and by then it was almost cringe. I think he knew he was smoked so he played around too much and went for broke like when Canibus realized he wasn’t going to beat Dizaster and started reading writtens to the crowd. Still though, Award is a dope ass battle rapper and anyone who says different is full of it.

good analysis, I don't remember all those details but I gotta agree with the broad stroke...I do think Award was desparate at the end - that age angle was mad weak and dragged out and even played into madflex's portrayal of him as a spoiled childish newcomer...didn't help that he was dancing around on stage multiple times either...

First round Flex. A Ward had way too many run it backs, however his The Office scheme was the best set up and haymaker scheme of the battle. A Ward took the second with the forced multi scheme. Had the junk drawer line been seamless I might've edged the round to Flex. I'm deducting points for Ward stepping on the Js in the third. That is some serious fucboi shit. It was a classic battle leading up to that moment with the first two rounds being pretty clear so it comes down to the third. I really didn't really like Flex referencing his chokes in the third. It's more than two by the way, he choked against Psychosis as well. I feel like that cancelled out the deduction I gave Ward. A Ward did have a very small stumble in the third, and the age scheme was kinda corny, though the Just for Men/Touch of Gray line was dope. He had the on the spot rebuttal for the toe tag which was amazing...as well as a solid rebuttal against the choke line from Flex. Flex had some bigger moments in the third, however and the "God said get up you don't have time for this" line was crazy. Struggle bars have become somewhat of a tired trope these days but Flex made it work and it was believable. Very tough battle to judge but I will edge it to Flex by the slimmest of margins with the first and a very close 3rd based on the unique haymakers and really drawing the crowd into his story in that 3rd. Fire 🔥 battle though and very much a classic with tons of replayability. Props to both Ward and Flex for putting in the work to deliver this performance.

props to docking points on the Js, I thought that was hella wack too...however the toe tag rebuttal line off the dome was crazy too. I thought Flex dragged out the junk drawer line a lot but the setup was awesome and calling out that line was a nice angle ... I didn't think a ward had any really good angles this battle or consistent rounds so I definitely gave the edge to Flex in the second and A wards repetition bars in the first pissed me off too so I really gave it to Flex 3-0, but I personally thought there wasn't a lot of punches in this battle...a lot of tight rapping from flex and a lot of showboating from A ward...ain't nothing wrong with some style but you gotta have substance and I think ward's been getting shallower ...

Madflex was a better rapper all three rounds (even with the stumble, which was well-covered; Award also repeated multiple bars so I hardly counted it). A Ward knew his strength was in showmanship but he went overboard (mad beef with the steppin on toes shit - childish and disrespectful and he just looked dumb dancing around); and relied on it too much. He used to have hella nice schemes and run that backs, but he hasn't been as clever or funny for a number of months - although he stays solid with sports references. He usually has heavier hits in general, but I didn't feel like he came with much tonight. He had a couple of misses. Flex didn't have a lot of hard punches but he was just way more consistent and had mature angles. I give all three rounds to Flex but only his third was high-scoring. A good rewatch to catch a lot of Madflex's internal rhymes and references, but honestly not a lot of replay value for me...just wasn't that fun or funny to watch.

Remember, Flex came at a time when it was all setup/punch/rinse/repeat and him having his own style set him apart from everyone. Personally, I think that intro was on point... Flex EASILY had better bars, BUT A. Ward has better stage presence and delivery. Having said that, I think Ward had the “harder” punches, but he was very basic... and he uses his presence to compensate for what amounts to kind of regular bars. It’s either/or for me. If you say flex got it 2-1, I could see how you got there, and vice versa for Ward.

I have to say props to Flex for really stepping up to the occasion. This is a battle where I honestly don't mind whichever way you swing it. It's a good thing it wasn't a judged battle because those judges would have had a hard time picking a winner.
