Still relatively new on the battle scene, Bonnie Godiva has only begun to see her momentum pick up in the last 12 months. The NYC battle rapper has done more than her fair share to help blaze the path for female emcees in a still mostly male dominated scene, as shown by her work ethic over the past year. Featured heavily in both Queen of the Ring and King of the Dot, Bonnie has been in the ring almost a dozen times in as many months, squaring off against the likes of Germ Free, Dutchess and Young Gattas. Still in the process of evolving her style, Bonnie has shown that she can switch seamlessly between clowning her opponent with her clever wit and humor and overpowering them with hard hitting punches. Back in Toronto for the second time, Bonnie Godiva takes part in one of the very few male vs. female battles ever.

I agree, but I don't think what I'm specifically referring to was funny. I do think it was a well formulated freestyle, though. Probably if some words were left out, it would've landed, but I still applaud it. In terms of being funny, that shouldn't be taken away from battlers. That's how "punchlines" (what you'd refer to as "bars") would've started in rap anyway. The debate should be which approach works more in a given situation. For example, in this battle, do Uno's jokes have more impact than Bonnie's "bars," or is it vice versa? It's about what you say and how you say it, not about "bars" per se, but about controlling the situation. So the question is, without prejudice to the angles or tools used, who controlled the situation?

uno was hilarious. but damn, this was such an awkward battle. the crowd was dead and bonnie's theatrics at the third round were just wwe-like. this is battle rap, not a soap opera. and a judge costume? really? acting as if you're a judge and pulling mystique out to "testify?" if you're going to be theatrical, at least be entertaining. you don't turn a serious and flaky accusation like that into a battle rap verse either. if it really happened, you take that stuff seriously and you take it elsewhere. it's pretty shallow to think that bonnie would use a rape accusation as an angle, but seeing that she lacks the tiniest bit of charisma and any sort of ability that makes her unique, i wouldn't be surprised if this is the reality. i don't know if the whole rape/assault story was true or not, but since we don't know and since the information was supplied through what a 16 year old girl would do, it's hard for anyone to take this seriously. but if it did happen, i feel bad that a serious issue like this is degraded by one of the most immature performances i've ever seen in a professional league.

Tiesha Anderson That's one of the bars that got the most response from both the crowd and battlers (like Swave), and it's the most basic and corny bar, especially coming from a girl...Uno's bars are sexist and for shock value, yes, and I can see how it hurts you (and Mistique probably), but they are still better then any of Bonnie's...
