The figth was excellent for another reason too. Many people thought that Sergey can win only by a early rounds KO, if the figth goes to distance, ward wil have an advantage, but Kovalev proved otherwise. I think that Sergey outboxed Andre in this one.

I love how Virgil Hunter was talking as if they had a master plan as the fight unfolded, yet in the corner, he was basically a cheerleader who delivered absolutely no technical advice round after round, lets keep it real though, Kovalev dropped the ball, he had Ward on the hook, let him off of it, gassed around the 7th round and gave away close rounds late when he should have dominated, he got away from the jab, followed Ward around and the Judges obviously had a bias and were looking at Ward and not looking at Kovalev, if it was close and nothing was going on, they were scoring the hitting while holding on the inside and giving those close rounds to Ward, although Kovalev allowed ward to get back into it, it was a case of Kovalev having a big early lead, especialy with the extra point for the knock down and all he had to do was win a couple rounds late to retain his title, for the judges to say, that ward won one of the first 3 rounds, and that he wont the last 8 straight rounds, is about as delusional and corrupt or inept as you possibly can get.. I guess it pays when you get away from small fry promotions like the goosens or main events and side with Roc Nation and J Prince, thats how you get these close bogus decisions in Vegas.. it was close, sure, Kovalev dropped the ball and allowed Ward to gain confidence and try his best, sure, but 114-113 should have been the score the champion got, because landing an occasional jab, isnt how you take the title from the champion.. it was a bad decision, but it was a also poetic justice.. HBO and some members of the boxing media tried to playt his fight as the winner being considered the best "pound for pound" fighter in the world, trumping Golovkin who has 17 title defenses, second all time and most consecutive knockouts as middleweight champion, having knocked out everyone he fought in a title defense, the most in history, and Choclatito, who accomplished what Alexis Arguello didnt do by becoming 4 division champion, staying unbeaten and now nearly 49-0, those guys have worked hard to make history and be considered the best in the world, and you cant erase that all in one hail marry career move like Ward attempted.. you can get a one point politically motivated win, but the broadcast teams, including HBO, Bob Sheriden, the UK telecast, believed Ward lost, the crowd who were cheering Ward on, booded the decision, the vast majority across all social media platforms expressed that they believed he lost, basically 9 to 1 in ratio, as far as ive seen, including on this post and if this fight as a legacy builder for Ward, it failed, at the end of the day, if you got a guy hurt, you cant let him off the hook and allow him to get back into it, especially when its the last American gold medal winner. Honestly, the Vegas comission needs to be disbanded and there needs to be an overhaul in the staff there, why would fighters wanna go and risk their lives in Nevada if they have to deal with this type of garbage, it wasnt the only injustice that night, Maurice Hookers own corner didnt think he won, and Curtis stevens, in exception of the first round, clearly lost the fight, and that fight was highway robbery, Los Vegas is a disgrace and it honestly should be investigated for their officials, because, either those people are corrupt or they are fucking idiots, ether way, no fighter should have to risk their lives, if they arent gonna get a fair shake, it effects their careers and thei r bottom lines

Whether you called this fight for Ward or Kovalev this was NOT a ROBBERY. Kovalev didn't dominate Ward and then lose on score cards. They fought a close fight and Ward got the decision. That is NOT a ROBBERY. Kovalev CLEARLY faded after the 5TH round. Ward got STRONGER as Kovalev got WEAKER. In rounds 6 through 12 Ward landed the CLEANER more effective punches. Yes, Kovalev hurt Ward early but Ward drove Kovalev back MULTIPLE times with hard body shots. Kovalev CLEARLY felt the BODY shots and Ward's power jab up top was also very effective in the later rounds. In the second half of the fight most of the clinching was initiated by Kovalev. He would hold every time Ward tried to get inside. In the 1st half of the fight Ward initiated most of the clinching. This fight to me was truly a tale of 2 halfs. In the first half Kovalev gave away 1 round which was the 5th. In the second half Ward won every round. The 5th Round that Kovalev gave away was the difference in this fight in my OPINION. From a neutral. Kovolev dominated early on. No brainer. Ward either planned or adjusted to working the body, in turn putting money in the bank for later rounds where he landed more head shots. People seem to ignore inside body work when scoring, where Ward dominated. I "felt" like the fight was a draw. I had Ward in control by the end of the fight. Both fighters shown their strengths. Kovolev his power and range boxing, Ward his ring intelligence and heart. I have no problem with the result. Great fight. Rematch please.

1 round was absolutely for Kovalev, even all judges gave it to him. all questions is about 10 and 12 rounds. I gave them to Kovalev, but all the judges gave it to Ward. On other rounds i agree with the judges.

People just seem to not understand Boxing and the 10 point must system. 2 rounds won by Ward equals a knockdown. Ward held Kovalev after being knocked down and continued to hold in the 3rd round. After that it was Kovalev holding not wanting to fight on the inside. What we missed was and epic comeback if not for Harold Lederman's strange scorecard which was openly disputed on the air by Max Kellerman who I greatly respect. Body puches & clean punches were the keys to victory. After the 4th rounds there were a couple of close rounds but I was starting to find it difficult to give Kovalev a round. Anyone who judges this fight after let's say round 4 and thinks Kovalev dominated is just out of their mind or doesn't like Ward's stye period. There was a round where Kovalev slipped when he got up his nose was bleeding, eyes were wide, and visibly fatigued yet I'm listening to the HBO commentators like my God are you watching the same fight. It was a great fight by two champions. Initially I was thinking it was a draw after watching a second time and scoring the fight all 3 judges got it right. Kovalev wanted range and Ward wanted the inside in the 2nd half of the fight ward imposed his will upon Kovalev. Where John David Jackson allowed Kovalev to coast after the knock down Virgil Hunter was amazingly bringing Ward back into the fight round by round. Somehow non-boxing people missed it........Ward wanted this fight more and deserves the win. Watch the grabbing ward in a head lock constantly to avoid inside fighting. Coming forward not landing and losing consecutive rounds is not good recipe for victory. You remove the knockdown and the odd telecast by HBO and it would be clear who won. I take nothing away from Kovalev he fought like a champion but even Kathy Duva thought something was wrong with Kovalev because he stop throwing his right hand in the 2nd half of the fight. Turn the volume down on the TV give the first 4 round to Kovalev and count the knock down which puts him up 5pts to 0. After the 12th round you may have it even or Ward winning by a single point that's just how dominant he was in the 2nd half of the fight again an epic come back!!!!

Great fight! Two champions! But Ward fought valiantly, got up and won a very close fight. I admit when I first saw the fight, I thought Ward lost, but I went back and watched the fight 6 more times to see what the judges saw, and though I initially thought Ward lost, I have to say upon further review that he in fact did win. Great fight and can't wait for the rematch!
