"No one wants to be part of a generation that ignores another Van Gogh". Yet, somehow, Allan's daughters had to crowdsource funding for his funeral. Truly tragic. One of the few real artists of his time.

Agreed, Allan is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I showed him a vid of my son playing the drums at age 6...Allan got tears in his eyes and watched this iphone video probably 10 times in a row and just loved the fact that my son was trying to figure it out. For the nay sayers below, If you love his playing or hate his playing just keep in mind there will never be another Holdsworth. There are very few that have made an historical statement in the world of guitar playing. Allan has!

I was fortunate to be able to meet and hang out with him in the late 90s. I can verify your statement about his being a nice guy. He was so down to earth. If I hadn't known who he was, I would *never* have known he was a living legend. My wife was with me, and she doesn't play an instrument, but she has a tremendous sense of humor. Allan really appreciated that and talked and joked with her. He appreciated that more than he did my discussing music and gear with him. He was *never* rude or dismissive, but it was obvious he would rather cut up and have fun than talk guitar. A genuinely great guy.

I absolutely love using this through a cranked Plexi. So much variation to fiddle and get different shades of tone using the bass and treble. A gourmet dinner overdrive/boost pedal! I think its the best, though other overdrives have their place. This is a must have to add to one's arsenal. YOU ALL NEED TO KEEP MAKING THIS PEDAL, TOO MANY PLAYERS ARE WANTING IT!!!!!!!!

@@rickdeckard1075 Hey, man. I'm really sorry to learn of this. I wouldn't wish your condition upon anyone. But with that said, there's no need to get your frustration out by tossing insults around simply because we _can_ hear it and you cannot. None of us had anything to do with whatever caused your condition, and again, I deeply empathize with you for having to live with such a thing. Some might say that one cannot be deprived of something that they don't know they are being deprived of, but I simply don't feel that way about things. Regardless, my heart hurts for what you have to live with _every single day_ and I wish there was something I could do for you. I would recommend you some blues licks, but as you can imagine, I'm not too familiar with such things. I'm sure you already have your ways of alleviating your condition, so you would know better than I do. Take care, friend. Many blessings.

Fantastic pedal bought one instantly.. Allan is something else, hoping he comes back to Texas. I think perhaps the hole he speaks of is the one he was trying to climb out of to impress his father. Nice to hear Allan talking about his past and blues licks. I saw him at the Farmers Inn at Thornbury in 1969 with his band 'Igginbottom. He was playing a Hofner solid through an AC30 and he played a lot of blues licks then. In Bradford he was a legend even back then and rightly so. I would really like to know what happened to his band mate and student Steve Robinson. He was a very fine player too but nobody seems to know what happened to him.

I'm from Bradford and I had to remind both the main local newspaper and local BBC TV station, of who Allan is and that he had just died and that the whole guitar world was paying tribute to him. One of the greatest ever musicians who just happens to come from my little part of the world, and nobody from the media even knew of him. :-( Anyway Francis Dunnery of It Bites fame and who was heavily influenced by Allan's playing and music, did a good tribute to Allan on his radio show. Funny guy! I studied guitar in Pasadena back in '98 and had the good luck to be invited over to his place, thanks to a common acquaintance, the ever-charming Glenn Oberholtz. (Glenn, are you out there?). Allan was a very warm host, specially after several pints of a fantastic Ale he offered.... I vividly remember how he listened back several times to Joe Pass' 'Catch Me', in awe. There was one part of the solo which made his eyes open really wide and it cracked us up, because it was very wide !!

Notice the difference in sound. The first minute of the video appears to be recorded using an ambient (room) microphone. The tone later changes as it would appear that the microphone(s) was(were) placed much closer to the speaker(s). A key ingredient in that thick distorted tone, without going to 11 with the overdrive setting, is a number of multi-tap delays. They provide stereo imaging and incredible thickness. This probably started during the ADA STD-1 days in the early to mid 80s.

@Vids One of the things I learned from watch many, many Holdsworth clinics AND talking to the man himself is that he prefers for the preamp of the amp to provide the "over driven" tone and not the pedal. But keep in mind he looks for a lot of clean transparent gain from the pedal to get the preamp where he wants it and this pedal gives him that. He does a great job explaining what he wants from the pedal. For the rest of how he gets his signature tone there isn't space here for me to give you t

I have this pedal and I really like it. So, I have to ask: How did Allan employ this, and into what specifically, to get that smooth overdrive? What settings on the pedal? What settings on the amp? Look, I know only Allan sounds like Allan due to his touch, his gear, delay settings etc, etc, etc. But even the cheap Spark 40 amp has a really good emulation! Kindly shed some light on this, if you please.
