The Kozya Cave in the Krasnoshchekovsky district of the Altai Territory was discovered by Novosibirsk archaeologists in 2020. It turned out that stone tools characteristic of early Neanderthals, which are found, for example, in Denisova Cave, were left in the cave. The cave most likely served as a temporary stopover during migrations or hunting trips that ancient people made 45-55 thousand years ago.
The story is told by Vladimir Mikhailovich Kharevich, Candidate of Historical Sciences, researcher at the Stone Age Archeology Department of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Ksenia Anatolyevna Kolobova, Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher at the institution’s Stone Age Archeology Department.
The video was prepared with the support of a grant from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the federal project “Popularization of Science and Technology” in 2024.
