I just got a calibrated microphone last week so I've been tweaking everything recently but in order to get the flattest frequency response with how I had everything set up before required raising my crossover to 120hz and adjusting the distance a couple feet higher for the subs. I have dual HSU VTF2-MK5s and Jamo S803 front ported bookshelf speakers that have a 57hz-26khz +/- 3db. Have yet to dial in the distance setting or crossover yet but I'm getting very even output from the subwoofers now that I moved them to opposing corners. Biggest thing for me is that you can fix subwoofers interacting with room modes by moving them but you can't move your towers out of a null so if you have a null where you place your towers it determines where you can cross over. Hard to really know any of that without getting a mic tho unless you have super ears in the region in which our ears aren't sensitive haha.

I miss my home cinema. I sold everything when we moved from a house to an appartment. Tweaking every little detail to make it sound perfect was so much fun. Now days I’m tweaking my 2 channel hi-fi system. That’s fun to. I have the crossover set pretty high at 120 hz. Something just makes the sound fly at that level in that room. Theoreticly it should be set lower but who cares. If it sounds good, go with it. For home cinema I have the Sony HT-A9 system and I must say it’s pretty amazing. Four speakers and a sub that sounds like 12 speakers. Fantastic system. No tweaks needed though. Everything is handled automaticly.

One of the best video.....cleared most of my doubts about crossovers.....I am using polk audio psw111 subwoofer connected to denon AVR via LFE ....when I am putting subwoofer back panel low pass filter knob to full.....woofer is not giving me gud quality base and when I set the knob to 100hz ....base is gud and clean. I guess avr should control subwoofer crossover ,instead of doing it from subwoofer physical knob. Any idea what i am doing wrong. Front ,center and surround crossoverd at 80hz All speakers set to small Lfe +main----120hz Speakers details- Front- polk audio t50 Center-polk audio C30 Surround -t15

Thanks for the compliment. It doesn't sound like a crossover issue. It sounds like a subwoofer placement issue, phase issue or room acoustics issue. Maybe even all 3.

I have bi-amped 2x B&W CM8 S2 frontspeakers, B&W ASW610 sub, and 2x B&W M1 surround speakers with a NAD T778. Which cross overs do you recommend? First I was setting fronts on ‘large’ because of enhanced bass setting on the NAD and still active sub (specially for music). Now I put all on small which sounds better for movies. Thanks.

Reciever: Onkyo tx-nr3010 Amp front: NAD c372 Sub: B&W DB1 Fronts: Dynavoice Dynamite 12 Center: Dynavoice Dynamite C62 Front high: Dynavoice Dyna sat 61 Surrounds: Dynavoice Dynamite 10 I know this is not high end by any means, but it plays very well in my room an too my ears. Might have guesed that I like bass 🤪 I wonder though, where should i crossover for maximum PUNCH in the sound? The fronts are rated 32hz-32Khz, hight 48hz-32Khz, center 50hv-20Khz, surround 25hz-32Khz, sub 15hz-250hz. I find that the sound is best with fronts and surround in large, but everyone say it should be set to small. I have dual bass, sub and fronts on.

Great video. Very informative like always. I have 2 klipsch Rp-260f’s in the front, a Rp440c in center and 2 Rf-26’s in back. The fronts are at 80Hz, the center is at 100Hz, the rears are at 80Hz and the subwoofers are at 120Hz. It sounds very good to me through my Marantz nr1607 receiver. My bedroom is like 24*22 I think and the ceiling is around 10 feet tall. Are there any different settings or adjustments you would recommend or just stick to the way I have it?

I recently got an Edifier D12 and added a Bestisan-SW65D. For an inexpensive system it's great and fills my home. The Edifier needs the sub badly tho. Subwoofer is rated at 40Hz-250z. After much OCD tweaking I finally just set the crossover at the midway notch and said screw it. I guess that would be a 145Hz setting? It's really hard to tell the difference in subtle tweaking it. I can only tell when dial is at opposite ends. With D12 really just good with mids I'd think it's good if the sub crossover isn't too low, like about clear down as some suggest to have it.

Thank you for a very thorough explanation of crossover. My fronts are Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2's and the range is 46 hz to 35khz. I also have Polk RTi A3 for my rears and Pioneer Floor Speakers as my surrounds (that is just the set up I like). I am not running a subwoofer. My receiver is a Pioneer VSX Elite series. I changed my configuration from large to small and the crossover from 80 to 50. They sound very good like this and I don't notice any strain; do you think this will be okay going forward?

Way different from the old set everything at 80 and be done with it.Any advice for what to set my Polk LSIM 706 Since I found some male voices sounding a bit harsh and guttural. For that matter what did you have your 707s and 702s crossover set to when you had them. Thanks so much--you are very helpful. I have them all set to 80 and my room is L 21.5-W 11.5-H 10FT.

The 706c has a +-3db frequency response from 50-40,000Hz. You can set that one to 60HZ and get the full range of male voices in addition to some low frequency effects like gunshots.
