Thank you so much! Very understandable post. I had an old Bose system that died on me after 20 years. I wanted a new Bose system, but I had a Rotel RAP2580mkii with a Rotel external AMP that powers a pair of Bowrers and Wilkins 802 D3s. I was using it to play music only. After my Bose died, instead of purchasing another Bose, I decided to add more speakers to the Rotel surround processor. I now have a B&W db4s subwoofer, b&w HTM71 700 series center channel, and 8 b&w M-1 surround speakers. I know it’s not conventional, but it was most economical for me at the time. My speakers are all set to small except the 802d3s. They’re set to large. My crossovers are as follows: 40Hz for the fronts, 60Hz for the center, 70 or 80Hz for the M-1s, and 120Hz for the sub. Still learning, but it sounds great. Next year I plan to get another DB4S Subwoofer. It’s just not in the budget for this year.

I miss my home cinema. I sold everything when we moved from a house to an appartment. Tweaking every little detail to make it sound perfect was so much fun. Now days I’m tweaking my 2 channel hi-fi system. That’s fun to. I have the crossover set pretty high at 120 hz. Something just makes the sound fly at that level in that room. Theoreticly it should be set lower but who cares. If it sounds good, go with it. For home cinema I have the Sony HT-A9 system and I must say it’s pretty amazing. Four speakers and a sub that sounds like 12 speakers. Fantastic system. No tweaks needed though. Everything is handled automaticly.

I just got a calibrated microphone last week so I've been tweaking everything recently but in order to get the flattest frequency response with how I had everything set up before required raising my crossover to 120hz and adjusting the distance a couple feet higher for the subs. I have dual HSU VTF2-MK5s and Jamo S803 front ported bookshelf speakers that have a 57hz-26khz +/- 3db. Have yet to dial in the distance setting or crossover yet but I'm getting very even output from the subwoofers now that I moved them to opposing corners. Biggest thing for me is that you can fix subwoofers interacting with room modes by moving them but you can't move your towers out of a null so if you have a null where you place your towers it determines where you can cross over. Hard to really know any of that without getting a mic tho unless you have super ears in the region in which our ears aren't sensitive haha.

I recently got an Edifier D12 and added a Bestisan-SW65D. For an inexpensive system it's great and fills my home. The Edifier needs the sub badly tho. Subwoofer is rated at 40Hz-250z. After much OCD tweaking I finally just set the crossover at the midway notch and said screw it. I guess that would be a 145Hz setting? It's really hard to tell the difference in subtle tweaking it. I can only tell when dial is at opposite ends. With D12 really just good with mids I'd think it's good if the sub crossover isn't too low, like about clear down as some suggest to have it.

Bro l have to say l just loved your no bs easy to understand with no heavy techie explanation of things! 🙂 Like you making your voice go lower in trying to explain things 🙂 It was even easy for an old technophobe noob like me to follow 🤣 Just a couple of questions please on your opinion with what frequency settings to use on my speaker set up…. Fronts, which I’ve had since you were born, are like massive bass heavy Cerwin Vega 1725’s, being over 52 inches high x 17 inches deep with each having a 15 inch and a 17 inch bass drivers, 2 mids and a tweeter, so what would u set the crossovers on those? I’ve looked for the instruction manuals and also on line but can find nothing to tell me their frequency response? The sub is a Yamaha soavo 900, frequency 18hz-160hz Rear sides 70mz-20mz Centre front 65mz-20mz Rear centre 80mz-20mz I’ve also subbed as well due to the opening scene of the video 🤣 AND thanks with any help u can give me with this 🙂🇬🇧
@Kpaceguy Жыл бұрын
Your receiver probably doesn't let you set your crossover lower than 40hz and the cerwins are probably rated for a little under that. I'd personally go 50hz or 60hz and let my subwoofer do its job.
@EtonieE25 Жыл бұрын
@@Kpaceguy Thanks bro appreciate your reply and I’ll let u know the outcome 👍🇬🇧 So would u set the sub @ 120 mz. Centre @ 60 mz. Rear sides @ 60 mz. Rear centre @ 80 mz

Might have guesed that I like bass 🤪 I wonder though, where should i crossover for maximum PUNCH in the sound? The fronts are rated 32hz-32Khz, hight 48hz-32Khz, center 50hv-20Khz, surround 25hz-32Khz, sub 15hz-250hz. I find that the sound is best with fronts and surround in large, but everyone say it should be set to small. I have dual bass, sub and fronts on.

Unfortunately I do not yet own a subwoofer, so for the time being I accept missing anything below ca. 30 Hz. (That is the roll off of my large front speakers). So by default my fronts are set to large whereas auto calibration leaves my center channel at 40 Hz which is way too low anyway. Specs for my center channel read 72 Hz but no mentioning of dB. So I had to trust my ears to set my center channel correctly. I somehow noticed that for Blu Ray quality 80 Hz is fine, but for my TV settop box (which streams Dolby Digital) I mostly have to raise it to 90 Hz because of bad mixing which makes human voices mumble. But that's mostly because of bad mixing resulting center channel way too high in volume.
