@KillSocialism10 жыл бұрын
Yep, I remember Circut City would actually give you the paid difference on a item if another store was selling the exact item for cheaper within 30 days of purchase. I got back 5 bucks cause they had that policy. Then when ever I had any problems with the electronic stuff I didn't have to worry about having receipts. Recently I got some high dollar earbuds that went bad on me from walmart and I got a warranty but couldn't find my receipt. Walmart told me they couldn't do anything without the receipt. I won't buy anymore expensive electronics from walmart.

So much for the "lifetime guarantee" from firedog (at 6:41). I guess it was Circuit City's lifetime they were talking about.

Nice closing sequence. Circuit City was 60 years old when it was out of business. SO SAD. :,(

6:39 'lifetime guarantee' You mean one year guarantee right?

Watching these was really fun if only to see the culture change from last video in the mid 80s where it is very soft and family friendly to the snarky, in your face funniness of everything in the 00s. It's crazy how much advertising has changed in 40 years, and how many cultural institutions such as Circuit City we've lost along the way.

DIVX was an early indicator of the demise of Circuit City. Netflix obviously killed it.

ahh the '90s, still good memories. If only management hadn't got rid of the good employees a few years before they went belly up, they might have had a chance. The later ones had no idea what they were selling. So sad.

@TMBtD12 жыл бұрын
The last batch of commercials, they really went off breaking the bank with the production and all the offers.. That only accelerated the demise. They were great ads, yet a little awkward when I saw them in 2008, you could tell something was up. They were no longer as riled up to get you into the store like the 90s ads.

@wolfgang10975 жыл бұрын
I think that instead of advertising going out of business sales in TV commercials, if anyone wants to know what's going on so far during the liquidation, there should be somewhat frequent updates on the news.

When Circuit City pulled that sweet ass plug (flying at the end of the commercial, which then becomes the store front) from it's ads... I pulled the plug on shopping at Circuit City!

@TheNascarfan14 I don't know the kid very well, so I don't want to give out his name. But I do know him! He was talking about being in it, and I wanted to find the commercial.

Very Tim Hunkin after 6 minutes when the machines started to come to life and have legs in a sort of "Secret Life Of Machines" (Tim Hunkin's tv show) sort of way. I bet Hunkin would approve of this.

1:05: ...You smell that? That's the shark that Circuit City jumped. DivX died, and for the next decade, they lied. D: 2:35: JONATHAN MANGUM. :D 3:25: So, Circuit City still had that "plus 10% of the difference" offer (worded differently) in 2002. I wonder if they ever dropped that. "Nu School" -Holy cringe, Batman! What's "built-in wireless G"?

is it sad that i still seem people using those old late 90s beige computers as late as like 2006....I live in the midwest so i have no experience with Hurricane Katrina or hurricanes at all for that matter but i remember seeing aftermath videos of Katrina and in the rubble i kept seeing computers from like 1998....i was like were these people stuck in the 90s?? I thought the south being behind tech wise was only a stereotype not for real.....O.O

DIVX crap! CC lost a bunch of money with this stupid scheme.
@huehnerfuss8 жыл бұрын
What was that any way?
@worldofai-games10367 жыл бұрын
DIVX was Circuit City's way to create trial versions of movie DVDs. The disc is similar to DVD but would shut down after 48 hours of play. The 48 hours reflects the typical timeframe for a rental DVD, which was the market Circuit City was trying to compete in. After 48 hours of play, you get the option to extend the disc for a few more days or convert it to an unlimited DIVX for an additional fee. The technology was widely unpopular for its special high priced players.
@thystaff742 Жыл бұрын
@World of AI - Games Not trial version of a DVD, but a DVD rental. I told a manager it would flop, and he argued with me over it. I didn't need to say a word to him when we were throwing all the divix dvds into a bin to be shipped to a warehouse.
