The fact that the supported range Lily has is very rare for 4th gen vocalists, in spite of the amount of groups being debuted this period, unfortunately shows how vocal and vocal training is becoming less and less prioritized for companies and the entertainment industry. I mean look at how heavily processed vocals are in supposedly vocal-focused shows such as produce and Masked Singer.

@@culturedswine4003 well, wendy can support to a D while solar and wheein can do up to C#. Wheein, despite being light lyric, can project properly into the third octave, G iirc, so can Solar. Also, your point just adds evidence to my first statement, that vocal technique is becoming less and less given importance. Most main vocalists today are just made so for the fact that they can hit an F or a G, regardless of technique. Which is also why most vocalists today, when belting, sound almost without any distinction.

@@aldrenenenenen_4089 Haewon also has many D5’s and Ning Ning, Yechan and Monday also have a couple of C#5’s. Ning Ning also can sing D3 (in studio) with tonality and Monday can project F3. You can’t just look at particular notes but the vocalist as a whole. I don’t disagree that vocals are getting weaker and weaker in 4th Gen, but that decline was already happening in 3rd Gen. Also, the gap between 3rd Gen and 4th Gen is noticeable, but I kinda feel like you’re making it seem bigger than it it’s but cmiiw.

I think ningning's well-projected lower register and her clean and precise vocal agility saved her from earning one of the top main vocalists of this generation... Even though there are a "few" 4th gen main vocalists that may outrank her in terms of belting and upper-register, I think there's only a few (or none) vocalists who can come close to her lower register and vocal agility and she's most likely the best in these among her peers...

I think for Giselle and karina(+) there's no need for the third or fourth because they both have something to fight karina with her Agility and Vibrato + Lows a bit better than Giselle, and Giselle is always clean in her voice and a bit of an issue, but karina has a lot of belting and for her lvl karina mix belting she has entered a neat one! but I agree Giselle relaxes a bit while singing makes the support very clean sometimes!

so much unpolished talent in 4th gen kpop! I really love gidle and loona members' voices. It's such a shame their sense of support is generally so shallow/underdevelopped, especially for someone like haseul who seems to have all the ingredients to be much more technically advanced than she is right now. I'm not sure I agree with every note you labeled to be supported here but overall this is a very solid job. great video! it's nice to see that the online kpop vocal community is still somewhat active. Great work! However, I would personally disagree with saying that the girls in the W and W-A who can support down at least G#3/A3 have well-developed lower registers if they lack fullness in their lower registers or can get shallow down there a good amount of the time (which I am seeing with some of them esp Yuqi and Liz). Decently developed, sure, but not exactly well-developed. I know they're (lyric) sopranos, so I don't have that much expectations for their lows, but they're far from what I can say well-developed tbh. Development, at least to me, isn't just how low (or how high) you can support, but also the quality of these notes delivered as well (like if they're solid or full) and the consistency as well. For instance, compare many of these girls to MAMAMOO Solar who can support down to G#3/A3 as well but with nice fullness and you can see a glaring difference in development between her and these girls. Monday seems to have a nicely developed lower register though based on that F3 she produced at 11:37. 0:57 Am I hearing throatiness there at the F#4 and after? I didn't really like the F#4 and the ones following after that in that moment (sounded throaty to me ngl) lol. The moment after that was slightly nicer ig lol. -Also, ofc, Yuqi does not sound like a mezzo at all, let alone that low of a soprano tbh lol. Her chesty approach (when she's not too throaty from what I can hear like at that time stamp) kind-of reminds me of Seungmin's approach (except I believe Seungmin is stronger and more consistent lol) and Seungmin is a (light) lyric tenor afaik lol. 2:08 Okay, glad someone agrees with my initial opinion that Bora should be in the weak tier (I personally think she's too shallow to be anywhere in W-A lmao). Personally, I do think fromis_9 Gyuri is better than her; I mean sure, both of them are shallow and weak in support, but I would argue Gyuri more for the W-A tier than I would for Bora based on what I've seen so far from what I can hear from the two of them lol (I don't fan-follow fromis_9 or Cherry Bullet btw so maybe I could be wrong lol). Thanks for the confirmation bias btw lol. 2:47 Didn't expect her to get G#3 and actually thought she has Bb4 (like A4/Bb4) in her S.R. ngl (though still not the best G#3 I've heard from anyone tbh). Also, what do these kids mean that she "screams" when she actually shows healthy projection and good support unlike some of their faves (I personally know idol vocalists who sound they scream a good amount of the time (many of them are male idols which should be quite telling lol), and they don't get the sh*t that Lily gets lmao...actually some of them are ranked among the top in their groups for that because they sound "powerful" lmao)... 🥴 Maybe I'm wrong with some of these thoughts (since I'm personally learning and even creating projects based on this knowledge as well lol), but it would be nice if someone can confirm at least one of them lol.

Great content and I kinda agree with most of these❤️… But it really brothers me that whenever people make a vocal analysis they only give emphasis on support(especially in belting)… what about vocal agility? Vocal dynamics? Head voice? Falsetto control? Lower register? Switching of vocal registers? Vibrato?… I do agree support and resonance is an important criteria in evaluating vocal abilities… However, there are vocalists who can produce supported notes throughout her belting range but can barely control her volume(vocal dynamics), can't make a smooth transition from chest to head/falsetto register, low notes are barely audible, uncontrolled vibrato, and have an inconsistent and sloppy vocal runs…

But from what I can see, how can a singer be a better vocalist than the other if he/she is a one-trick-pony? Compare yuju/solar to wendy. Yuju and solar has better and more consistent resonance especially in midbelts(esp 2015-2017 for yuju), but wendy has better upper-belts, better lows, better control and support in head voice(the best in 3rd gen), falsetto is more controlled, better vocal agility, can transition between registers smoothly, and especially WAY BETTER dynamics (compare wendy's version of stay with me to yuju's) as she doesn't sound monotonous(can effortlessly control her volume output or can adjust the powerfulness and softness of her voice)... P.S. I'm not against you and I actually find your content entertaining and informative... I'm against the entire system of evaluating/analyzing vocal technique and skills that has been adopted by the majority of the vocal community

But still balanced mix is the best. Solar have very strong support and placement upto C#5. But the reason she can't support higher than C#5 is because of her overly chesty mix which leads to strain in the mid and upper 5th octave notes. Taeyeon too has a chesty mix, it's one of the major reasons she strains above D5.

love this video. unpopular opinion: i find Haewon more grounded than lily and more "shaped" than Lily in general speaking. Haewon doesn't lack that much compare to Lily, she has a better mix, yes she can be chesty sometimes but it doesn't matter. She has a better lower register than Lily, she produce and supports her HV. (I think she can support higher tho but we lack materials) Sometimes i do hear tension in her voice above C5 but she's a "better vocalist" than Lily in general. Plus they have the same issues.

Vocalists like Lina,Uji,Solji,Moontaek and Ailee are all chesty yet they sounds healthy and stronger than most with softer approach, it's because they have a strong development with their cords and strong sense of support although chesty. Being chesty also helps to produce more grounded sounding and maximize the projection.

Okay I finished lol. First, Is Haseul being 4th strongest a typo? Or is Heejin better? Second, I agree about Bora in weak tier it is a shame she regressed though. Third, Sullyoon has some nice B4’s imo I hope she can become average one day. And finally, I have a feeling that when we get more materials with Lily’s lower register I think we will find out that she’s actually not bad there as well.

sihyeon is weak, she has shown shallow support down to B♭3 and up to G4/G♯4 up to A4 at best. mia is underdeveloped, she has shown some very shallow and inconsistent support down to B3 and up to G♯4.

It's hard to switch a style. Since it's a habit of ningning to sing with light coordination when mixing it stops her from supporting stronger and blocks her resonance and her improvement. It can be improved but it's hard to change your habits. Like smoking takes years to quit
