Honestly, despite I.O.I's short time together, you could tell that what they had was real. The chemistry the girls had with each other is undeniable, and that's coming from a non-stan who doesn't even care about "idol friendships" that much (most of them are just coworkers let's bffr). The fact that they all do their best to make time for each other (like spending time together, mentioning each other online, singing old I.O.I songs, promoting each other's solo projects and music) even now when they don't even have to anymore (it's been more than 5 years since I.O.I ended lmao) is just a testament to how much these girls grew to love each other.

Like it’s not a normal 9 to 5 job- They have to be together 24/7, work well as a team, would’ve endured intense training together before they even debut, and for the fan service thing to really work there needs to be a genuine friendship behind it even if some of it is faked or exaggerated for the cameras. They are put in an agency to try to debut first, win over many trainees in a cutthroat competition. Then, the chosen ones form a group and MAYBE a bond. we'll never know for sure, no matter how many live broadcasts they have together. They fight, there are members who are paid more than others, there are members who do not fit korean beauty standards and are made fun for that for the ones in the group who are (and I've seen it), there is popularity disparity, there's also the fact that at the beginning of the career the members ideed live together but as the group gets more seniority they get to have their own apartments, houses, whatever have their romantic partners and there can be some distancing, too, and it's normal. God, there are so many other factors, too. It's not black and white and it will never be. And we'll never know for sure so obsessing over a bond you don't even know is real, is a mistake.

Even in your school, the friend you spend most of the time with would be seen as your best friend and I’m saying that from experience. So are the people around you judging you? For NCT, the members said that it’s hard to be close immediately especially when the members have different debut dates, and they promote most of the time only with their respective subunits, BUT projects like the NCT album that includes various NCT U subunits help a lot because through this particular subunit, the different members get to rotate outside of their own subunit and work with members from other subunits. Hope this helps new K-pop stans, and not stop you from giving NCT a chance. They’re just a bunch of goofballs, especially when they’re all together. You can watch the NCT Show or the NCT Field Day for reference. Anyways, each subunit feels like a family on their own. It’s really wholesome.

Nct dream is like the closest and most affectionate group i've ever seen and i'm saying this as a kpop fan for 10 years stanning multiple groups before.
