While I like both kpop and western pop, I think those ppl are just jealous western pop fans.... or just ppl who never gave kpop a chance... bc ngl western pop has been giving the same shit or generic sht most of the time, while kpop have been exploring all sorts of genres, created unique genres and experimented with sound/ genres/ mixed genres so much. But this doesn't mean I don't like western pop. I like both kpop and western pop but just saying.... I low-key pref the maturity of western pop vocals and the raps are more authentic and stronger. and if I want to listen and sing along to something thats more classic sounding then I'll go for western pop. While kpop in general (thx to SM and Loona imo and partially JYP and tiny tad bit of HYBE ig...) excels in the music and production bc they sound more dynamic and the vocals do hit too but just different than western pop imo. Western pop tends to have more skilled vocalists/ rappers but music usually sounds too safe sounding imo, and stuck in time. Ik kpop is heavily inspired by western pop and black culture music
