“Action Jackson” should’ve had sequels, action figures, cartoons, comic books, video games, and a host of other things that should’ve built that film into a forever going and successful franchise in cinema history. Jericho “Action“ Jackson should’ve been just as big & successful as Die Hard’s John McClane. It’s an absolute travesty.

I have been a Carl Weathers fan ever since I saw Rocky 2 days after it won the Best Picture Oscar. Rocky was a character driven Drama about achieving your dream. In the first film, Rocky tells Adrian that there's no way for him to win, but if he goes the distance that, in itself, will be a victory. Unfortunately, the Rocky films turned from an artistic endeavor into a long MTV music video in Rocky III and Rocky IV. Weathers had his own starring role as the title character Action Jackson. But it didn't succeed at the box office. He also starred on his own Detective show called Fortune Dane. Hollywood has never been kind to men with muscles and he isn't any different. Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Fox had no muscles but trained as actors.

Carl Weathers has a very refined, almost elegant style of acting that is a little bit niche, and adaptable to any format that requires a respectable figure who supports the rest of the cast, whereas Denzel has a very leaderlike approach, where know matter where he is, he always seems to be able to project a sense of all-knowing wisdom, and that wisdom is applicable to everything, therefore it can spread and show itself in any film he's in, causing it to be successful. It's just two different types of people who contribute to films in different, but uniquely critical ways, which is necessary for the film industry as a whole because it means you're never lacking in what you need, which is just as important as being a top tier success.

I think Weathers did have his opportunities, but his shows and movies he starred in weren't successful. Also he wasn't the actor that Denzel is. I'm reminded of Dereck Luke who was touted as the next Denzel. If Boseman hadn't died so young he could have been the next Denzel. Now its up to Michael B Jordan to be the next Denzel.

Denzel's appeal is he makes all his characters believable and I always found the same to be true of Carl. Carl once said that as much fame and exposure playing Apollo Creed brought him, he believed it typecast him in the eyes of Hollywood for a long time. I personally believe that he should have easily been nominated and won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in Rocky. He was a great actor and person who brought his best to whatever role he played.

The truth is they limit all movie/TV viewers to 1 black star while Hollywood has 50 Caucasian counters. They don't want multiple black actors because of fear it'll overshadow others. There's heavy obvious racism but that's an inconvenient conversation for those who don't want to acknowledge it, it's 2024 and nothing's changed. I just pray he gave his life to Christ.

actually they tried to bank on Carl weathers they made a movie called action Jackson and if it would have been a hit it could have possibly spawned franchise. but they was the movie wasn't a hit and I guess in my opinion they determined that he just wasn't enough of a leading man to carry a bigger budget movie on his own. I remember going to see action Jackson at the movie theater and it was okay in the black community but it was not a hit people talk about it finally I guess it got rediscovered probably like 10:15 years ago like a lot of things do and people go back and say that it was a hit but it was not a hit. people don't remember or they don't know that movies or business it's an investment they want to put as little as possible into the movie for maximum return like any other business. what black folks don't seem to understand people don't do this for fun even on the movie set it's all fantasy it's not what you think it is most of the movie are a bunch of shots the real magic happens in the editing room. I'm saying all of this to say that as good as an actor as Carl weathers was and there's so many others they don't translate into big big big box office dollars at least not what the studios are looking for and from a business standpoint why would you invest in something that's not going to bring you the huge return You're only going to get so many chances before they pull the plug. a good example is Michael Jai White, he took his future into his own hands he started writing producing and directing his own material. there's another guy I don't know if you guys know his name but Tyler Perry he started out making plays writing producing directing and he got bigger and bigger but he invested in himself now he owns his own studio you know it's great to revere people and admire them. but we as a people do each other a disservice it's almost like you want a pity a person Carl weathers lived a good life and never really remember him saying anything bad about anyone if he didn't pity himself then why should you guys at any time he could have started his own production company and it's not easy but it's doable
