Episode 7 of a 10-part TV series made by Dr. Maya Angelou for KQED in 1968 called Blacks, Blues, Black!, which examines the influence of African American culture on modern American society. Includes scenes of Dr. Angelou in the studio arguing that it's useless for African Americans to try and conform to white middle-class values, if they want to lead a productive and fulfilling life. She emphasizes how African Americans should instead be: "breaking new ground ... opening avenues in business, in ... coping with a capitalistic society." Also features views on location of Dr. Angelou interviewing Ralph Bradley at Arabesco Air, Everett Brandon at PACT (which helps with business start-ups) and James Treadgill of Jamaican Tours, who benefitted from PACT's services. Ends with a panel discussion featuring Zack Thompson, Ralph Bradley, Mrs Josephine Richardson and Lee Deamous, led by Dr. Angelou. This episode was written and produced by Dr. Maya Angelou and directed by Robert Hagopian.

That story about painting the fairy "flesh colored" was both heart-breaking and infuriating. How blind can a person...a _teacher_ of all people...be to such an obviously rational perspective? I'm confident our society (as a whole) has come a long way since the days of this series, but (even from my privileged, White, middle-aged, male perspective) I'm also well aware that we still have a long way to go. 43:00 - 43:30 made a great point. In order for a Black man to get start-up capital to open a business, he has to get a loan from a White man's bank, BUT even if the Black man has his own money _in_ that White man's bank, the White man makes it as hard a possible for the Black man to _get_ a loan. Of course, that's an oversimplified view of the loan process, and it's not _always_ the case anymore. For that matter, in 2020, it seems like _no_ bank wants to make a loan easy for _anyone!_ Either way, I love Maya Angelou's response to the phenomenon, which was essentially _crowd funding,_ if not _community credit unions._ P.S. Those dance numbers...particularly the polyrhythmic drumming...literally got my heart rate up, and I absolutely LOVE that poem!

Has she ever taken Liberal arts? Has she ever heard of a dual degree? One for the intellectual and one for a skill? What degree does she have? Seems like she would have been an advocate in school curriculum reform. She died alone and her nurse found her. What does this say about her interpersonal relationships? Where was her child and grandchildren? Where was a spouse? Family and friends? Personal interpersonal relationships? Be careful who's advise you lend your ear to. Integration was not until 1954 and no one was taught how to integrate. No one was taught about each other in the classroom. Black history was not taught at that time as this transition was NEW. It also did not take effect across the USA at the same time. Therefore the critisums are not BALANCED WITH ALL THE FACTS FROM ALL SIDES FROM ALL RACES POSITION AND PERSPECTIVE.
