This is an amazing and informative video about Koh Panyee. I did go there on day trips from Ao Nang and Phuket as part of the James Bond Tour and I have got to see most of the island including the mosque which I went in (being a Muslim from the UK myself) - the mosque is beautiful and I agree that the market place remind of souks in some of the Arab-speaking countries as well as bazaars in Turkey

Sunni Majority, its difficult to find Shia in southern Thailand Im Thai Muslims around that area so i got a chance to visit the Island quite often
