No they are not , they are the originators of an obvious form of electronic music and at least half a dozen were earlier, the difference ? Lets make a song about robots , how original in 1978 , now numan made a song about people fucking robots , thats far more interesting, synths were as early as mid 50 s so kraftwerk was 20 years later

@@cnfuzz The other bands however where more Wave like. Kraftwerk sound got used by DJs in the USA together with funk and disco records which set the roots of two whole new genres: Techno and Hip Hop. It was the minimalist sound of Kraftwerk, that made Techno and Hip Hop possible.

@@cnfuzz yes, they are, without a shadow of doubt. godfathers not in a sense of having invented the idea of electronic music, but the were the ones to popularize and were one of the first groups not utilize any traditional instruments, but electronics not intended for music in the majority of their work. Most artist that used electronic means before that, also had traditional instruments incorporated. They also defined the aesthetics for electronic early music and brought expression and aesthetics together. So yes, they definitely are the godfathers of electronic music as we know it.

Als ich damals die Musik von Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk zum ersten Mal im Radio hörte war es ein unbeschreibliches unvergessliches Gefühl! Man muss sich nur mal vorstellen: du hörst zum ersten Mal in deinem zarten 10 jährigen Leben eine Musik, die es vormals noch NIE NIE gab! Syntheziser Sound, ein Sound "aus einer anderen Zeit, aus einer anderen Dimension, aus der Zukunft", Futurismus pur. So ein Gefühl vergisst man nie wieder! Und heute? Alles, was heute musikalisch produziert wird ist alles schon mal dagewesen, Altes wird nur kopiert...

Aber ob es nochmal so eine große Musikrevolution geben wird wie damals in den 50ern mit Rock n Roll (Bill Haley oder Chuck Berry) oder in den 70ern mit Synthpop (Giorgio Moroder oder Kraftwerk), bleibt fraglich. :(

Was dieses Stück und diese Band so einzigartig in der Geschichte der Rock und Popmusik macht, ist die Tatsache, das in der Blütezeit von Disco und Punk mit langen,oder bunten Haaren, Glitzerfummel, Plateau Schuhen, teilweise Schlaghosen, Gitarren und Schlagzeug lastiger Sound, wo es hauptsächlich um Liebe, Tanz, Drogen und Feierlichkeiten geht, eine Band daher kommt, im Übrigen nach 5jähriger Fernseh Abstinens, und tritt in einer Art und Weise im deutschen Fernsehen vor einem bis dahin meist anglo - amerikanisch beeinflußten Puplikum auf, wie es dies vorher und nachher nie gab. Vier deutsche Musiker aus Düsseldorf stehen mit glattgebügelten roten Hemden mit schwarzer Krawatte mit von oben nach unten leuchtenden LED Lampen und grauen Hosen, korrekt geschnittenen Haaren fast völlig regungslos vor ihren zum Teil selbst erfundenen, gebauten und benutzten Musikinstrumenten auf der Bühne und singen " Wir sind die Roboter". Mehr Performance und Außergewöhnlichkeit ging nicht.

I love these old television appearances by bands in the '70s and '80s that were obviously not played live. The giveaway is always the fade out and the sudden applause. To someone who didn't know what an applause sign was, it might have seemed as if the audience simply started clapping in order to end the song.
