There's actual no playback - there are sequences they trigger, but everything can be manipulated in real time by the controllers, and all the sequences are triggered "live" also - it's not like there's a tape or other recording running somewhere. And none of the sequences are "audio" - they are note data that is fed to the sound generators and generated in real-time also. Ralph also likes to play all the melodic parts himself as well as sing the parts that make sense to do live.

Saw this live 3d show in belfast few years back. was amazing, im more impressed seeing how they perform it, they are doing way more than we thought! I wish they had this overhead view projected on the screen. This is way more interesting than any graphics they put on the screen for the 3d bits. Pioneers. How I got into electronic music in the early 80s, listening to old late 70s kraftwerk records. Thank you for videoing from this angle. Really appreciate this. Thank you Kraftwerk also for being the pioneers of the genre. Still legends.

R.I.P. Florian.

9:31 That is one complex-looking software synthesizer. Couple of things, 1) Was it developed for the present-day 3D shows, or could it have been used back in their 2002 shows when they first got their VAIO laptops? I've heard rumors that they used software like Kontakt and Halion back then but I doubt their extensive use. 2) Hard to tell if it could be a Reaktor synth or a stand-alone synth. Trying to decide if this is an all-in-one synth, where all of the sounds come from it(bass, leads, etc), based on the amount of layers that can be used. This is highly fascinating to me, even if we'll never see something quite like this available commercially.
@ryderpresnell24464 жыл бұрын
Also, I have listened closely to their music. Every audio instrument that you hear from one song is not the same in another. For instance, the bass that Henning plays in The Model is not the same bass that plays in autobahn(although they both sound very similar). The keys instrument that plays the melody in this song, Tour de France, while sounds similar to the one in Radioactivity, is not the same. You will also never hear the same Snare drum twice in two different songs. So what I am trying to say, is that in their 2 hour concert, no sound is recycled. Can someone please tell me if I am wrong or not on this? Of course they could quite possibly add a lot of effects to their instruments to make it sound different(and they are just messing with my ears), but I highly doubt that. So my main point, is that Kraftwerk has to only have the most advanced pieces of VST synths in the world to do this, which makes it incredible to hear.

Yes they might use reaktor etc. Now probally same they don't seem to use real synthesizer their keyboards seem to be midi controlers mainly Henning's and Fritz controler Ralf too probally

It's pretty clear that they are playing the songs behind the podiums and not just pressing a button and then not doing anything, although it's definitely not as impressive as them bringing their entire studio with them like they did in 1981 (although that's probably why they didn't perform live for a decade). Still sounds good though, I've been to a Kraftwerk concert myself (and actually preferred the way it sounds to the aforementioned 1981 tours but I think that's just my personal preference) Also it's amazing how after nearly 20 years Tour de France Étape 2 still sounds futuristic
