Wow! Thank you for taking disjointed events of WWII atrocities and forming them into a cohesive picture. Suddenly so much makes sense. Everyone should watch this lecture.

THE DETAIL IS SO ELUCIDATING. IT HAS GIVEN ME AN ENTIRELY NEW UNDERSTANDING OF THE HOLOCAUST. THANK YOU, DR. SNYDER!

Sorry to have to be the one to point this out but Estonia was/is not a Scandinavian country but a Baltic country. Not that it has much/any bearing on Mr. Snyder's point. The problem we have forgotten , more specifically , is not global warming per say but hunger. A problem way more tangible and motivating than global warming.

This theory is just so brilliant! Eastern Europe=colonial Africa; makes SO much sense. Seems so obvious now. This is the 3rd time I’ve watched Professor Snyder give this lecture. Satisfies many a nagging question I’ve always had about the holocaust via the traditional narrative.

The only countries in the continental Europe where the jewries were allowed to live peacefully and weren't slaughtered or deported to death or anything else were Sweden and Finland. The two of the oldest democracies in the European continent, and the two which weren't occupied by Germany or the Soviet Russia. Even though 1939-45 Finland fought 3 wars. 2 of them against Russia and 1 against the germans. Finland was the only country having even the field synagogues for the small jewish minority in the front against the soviet invasions.

In occupied France the _French_ police enthusiastically corralled the French Jews and efficiently organized their shipping to the extermination camps by cattle train. In Lithuania Lithuanian youth enthusiastically did the extermination of the Jews of Vilnius, so the SS didn't have to do it. This was proved some time ago by a Lithuanian Jewish woman in a book that was banned under pain of prison when she was visiting Israel. She wisely stayed out of Lithuania but was able to present her book at the regular program Akadem, which may be watched on KZbin

Is Snyder still alive? I thought he went to Ukraine to fight. No? Just sent thousands of others to their certain death? Sounds about right. Coward.

Around min 48 the phenomenally informative becomes defamatory - to Poland. Shockingly sloppy historiography, Prof. Snyder "globalizes" the '"east" - Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia. They collaborated with Germany, treated them as liberators at first. What happened to Jewish Polish relations under Russian occupation was complex, and many Jewish Poles were not good Poles, they collaborated. And the discussion about rescue is - absurdly "global." Poles like my grandparents were terrorized and starved,, And in Poland, almost all Jews were segregated and placed in ghettos. dr, k
