Nice project, with the inconsiderate prices the companies want for a new camper trailer this is worth the money spend. Thank you for sharing a great idea.

When doing this you should put the heat barrier side up (silver side) This will help to reflect sun heat. Also use a heat knife to cut the foam easily without a mess. $20 at harbor freight.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

I'm converting a new, all aluminum 7X16 V-nose. I'm using 1" foam held in place temporarily with 3M spray adhesive. I'm reinforcing all the junctures of the aluminum studs and sheet metal with a highly adhesive marine sealant that remains flexible. Then any gaps are filled with Great Stuff. I'm going to use a horse feed tub for an inexpensive shower pan, supplied with a low pressure demand 12V pump and heated water from a Stiebel-Eltron Mini 2-1 tankless heater (powered by a Yamaha 2400 generator/inverter). Bedding will be one of the Serta EZ self inflating beds, which will leave room for the Goldwing when it is folded up. A/C will be a little Frigidaire FRA053PU1 5,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, exhausted through the floor. It won't be sticking up in the wind on the roof like regular RV A/Cs, which costs even more fuel. And, I'll be cannibalizing a cheap 3 room tent to build a fold out screen room for the ramp, in order to expand our living space. It'll be simple. The interior ceiling will be extra insulation, on top of, or rather below the foam I've put up. Home Depot has some good Twinwall Plastic Sheets that adds some dead air space. Did I mention the fold down 40" LED TV? LOL... Ok, we're old and need some luxuries after a day of riding in the mountains.

You could use Dynamat across the roof to deaden the sound for when it rains too. It's used in car audio applications to keep trunk lids and panels from vibrating from the bass.

There is a much easier way to fill a triangle, I learned it while framing gables for barns. If you have an obtuse triangle like the one you're filling in this video, all you need to do is find the 90 degree point on the base line (come straight back from the V until you hit the first roof support, best to use a string and a speed square for accuracy). Then measure the two lines coming off that 90 (one forward, and one right, let's say). If it measures 3 feet by 1 foot 6 inches, you would cut a rectangle equal to those measurements. Then you cut the rectangle diagonally from one corner to the other, and bang, you got two right triangles that will fill the gable end. You have to flip one of them over, but it will still fit. Might not have helped here, I couldn't tell if that foam you were using was metal on one side or both.

Taking the side wall panels off would had made the ceiling a little easier. A few "dead men" out of 2 x 4 's will hold up one side of the ceiling panel while you push up the other. Similar to hanging dry wall on a ceiling.

I don't really think it's much cheaper to be honest. My trailer was 3.5. After insulation, electrical, windows, roof fan, etc I'm near 6. And that's with me doing everything. Still have paneling, floors and furnishings to do. I personally would have gone with a teardrop if I didn't have a motorcycle. Toy haulera are very expensive. The customization is nice, but it isn't cheap by any means

I am crazy overkill, I'd put the foam in there, then cover it with the 4' x 50' pink 1/4" insulation, covering that with 1/4" luan, it would work miracles. I like the look of Home Depot's luan with stain on it, I had some stain tinted green and did the inside of my van. As for gaps due to mistakes, you can get wide crown molding or some other kind of trim, I did home remodeling for a few years, often times, home owners didn't want things town out and done right, they wanted it made to look right, they were on a budget.

@Krakology
@Krakology 3 жыл бұрын
here is from a site talking about osb , but its same principle . Basically plywood or OSB sheathing with a thin aluminum facing on one side, radiant-barrier sheathing installs like any other roof sheathing. You just have to keep the shiny side face down. You might wonder why the shiny side facing down wouldn’t just reflect heat back into the attic. The short answer is that it does, which is a benefit in the winter, but radiant-barrier sheathing is actually not designed to keep attics cool by reflecting heat. It keeps them cool by not emitting heat in the first place

Watching your videos, you've inspired me to do my own Enclosed Trailer Conversion. I have a 5x10 United XLE that I'm converting with only 5'6" interior head room because I need it to fit inside of my garage. I just opened up my walls and removed the luan and I plan to install similar Rigid Insulation. My question for you is whether or not to use liquid nails to secure it to the aluminum siding to give the exterior walls some strength. The aluminum is so thin. I plan on using the same R MAX 1" rigid insulation from Home Depot. Also, I wondered if you used the spray foam insulation along the sides to keep it in place and to make it air tight. Any info will be greatly appreciated!
@Krakology
@Krakology 8 жыл бұрын
+Alex Maranon i did not use liquid nails.. i believe the alum needs to flex some.. my walls was strong enough.. i did not make it air tight.. you can.. but i like it being able to breath..
@alexmaranon1457
@alexmaranon1457 8 жыл бұрын
I understand. I only have 1 3/8" walls, so there is a small gap between the insulation and the aluminum wall, I think that air gap creates even more R value. I have my insulation up and my electrical is in! I'm going to put up my walls in the next day or two. My back and shoulders are killing me!

nice job,,,,,,,,have a question ...........i currently have a 6x10 haulmark transport cargo trailer.reg says 2990 gvwr. it has 205/75d14 tires on it.,,,,,my problem is my garage door opening is 84 " high .but the trailer measure aprox 86 1/2 inches high. i was able to get it into my garage just barley by flattening the tire. but makes it very unpractical to use having to re-inflate and deflate with every use. have to keep it garaged due to HOA rules i'm thinking of changing the rims and tires from the 14 inch to a 12 inch in the homes of gaing the clearance i need to pull it in and out without messing with the tire inflation...... but can my trailer run safely on a 12 inch tire with a d rating ? also will the 12 inch give me the additional aprox i need to clear the garage height ?.......any thoughts or recommendations?
@K9River
@K9River 7 жыл бұрын
Bob, hopefully you have solved the problem by now. You could flip the axle, but I bet that would make it even higher. Perhaps there is a way to conveniently compress the springs (if it isn't a torsion axle). I'm not sure if you could change the springs themselves. I would ask your Haulmark dealer no matter what you are thinking of doing. As a side note. I won't do an HOA; it's like living in a communist or socialist country.
