Some may say that DMC games are weak on the story. But then again this is a simplistic and clear story about two brothers fighting over different point of views about their place in the world while mixing it with over the top action, epic battles, drama, style and humour. This may be a simple story with no multiple and twisting plotlines, but this is way stronger than any of the needlessly complicated stories with cliche characters. I can play it again many times (as a matter of fact I finish the game each year at the first weekend of summer break just for fun) but I can't get bored of it.

@@baroquechevalier8516 what? That’s not what I got at all. The quote you are putting is trying to communicate that some demons may not be as evil as certain humans, and that it’s not our nature (human or demon) but our own selves that determine our character. Dante embracing the values of family and humanity is what gives him the power to triumph over enemies through out the series, so I don’t think it holds a nihilistic view on humans and life.

I don't really see Vergil as a bad guy. Sure he's labeled as the Antagonist, but he isn't evil. He's just going through some emotional/personal stuff in his heart. Especially after their mom was killed. Also I love how even though they think differently and are rivals but man Dante and Vergil sure do love each other. capcome would still have to get the great idea to even think about an idea for a fifth game. It looks like for now, it's the DMC franchise that's been ditched by those asses, not reboot Dante (not yet). I still don't understand how come they like totally forgot about the real DMCs (no offence to DMC reboot. I got definitive edition and i'm having fun with it). Instead, today we have Mighty no.9 which doesn't even need to be played to understand that it doesn't need to exist unlike series like X, Zero or ZX (my opinion).

But they are working on series that were untouch for a long time and they want to continue them, like Resident evil and Dead rising.They made a choice wit Resident evil to take the series in horror survival direction or action blockbuster game. They made choice that may appeal to people that think that Resident evil horror survival is dead. And thats a good thing capcom are thinking actual. Lets not forget there business decision from the past year. The only thing that I'm concerned is that Devil may cry 5 doesn't become a button mashing, scripted animation, walk and talk, quick time event game. In my opinion just give the devs the time they need and dont rush it because already twice dmc title was rushed and unfinished.

One small detail I love about the final interaction with Lady and Dante is when she asks if he's crying, it doesn't sound accusatory, most of the time when someone asks if a male character is crying, there's a pause and then a tone of shock. "Are you... crying???" and that makes it sound wrong for the character to cry. Here, Lady is speaking more flat, and seriously toned, showing actual compassion and concern for Dante than shock and horror that he's showing emotion
@Huvpalto8 жыл бұрын
A while back this was the first game that showed me that videogames can do drama and can be high art. The conflict between these two is so nicely done. I mean, we have two half-demon brothers, but one of them rejects his devilish nature while accepting humanity, while another one despises his humanity and seeks more power to become a stronger demon. But why? Why was Vergil so mad with power? The way I see it, he was extremely traumatised by the death of their mother which he couldn't prevent, because he was a little weak human child. He couldn't save his mother and he couldn't protect his younger brother. And it is a big psychological issue. He became obsessed with becoming stronger for the sake of it, while his disgust and hate for weak humans grew. But wait, there's more: As we know from DMC4, Vergil had a family, a son by the events of DMC3 (don't even get me started on proofs for that. It is confirmed that Nero is Vergil's son in the artbook so shut up). And it is also tragic because after all, it shows that Dante was right all the along: Humans are stronger than demons because they can love and care for the loved ones. And despite all his hatred and disgust for humanity, Vergil did find a heart in his nature, a heart able to love. So now we truly know what was the reason for that obsession with power. He wanted to become strong so that what happened to his father, mother and brother would never happen again with his new family. "Foolishness Dante. Foolishness. Might controls everything - and without strength, you cannot protect anything". Who knows, maybe he wanted to obtain Sparda's strength to descent to hell and kill Mundus once and for all. Do what his father couldn't do when he instead just sealed him. And what, decades later, Dante finally did, ironically, with the help of Vergil. Which brings me to another problem: Why didn't Vergil tell Dante about it? Dante only tried to stop him because he believed that Vergil has gone mad and became a villain who wants to rule the world with power. None of this would have happened if Vergil told him his reasons. I believe hi didn't tell him because he didn't want to get Dante involved, just lure him in, take the amulet and continue on his own. There could be several reasons for it: His obsession with power and hatred towards any kind of weakness made him believe that asking Dante for help is a weakness. Maybe he didn't want Dante to know that he has a human wife and a 3\4 human child. I mean, that would be awkward to tell after all the time you said you hated humans. Or maybe, he didn't want to get Dante involved because he cares for Dante and didn't want to risk Dante's life as well as his own. In the end, after being defeated, he still doesn't do anything to change his principal position. He sees that Dante is stronger than he could ever be, so what's the point? So he casts himself down to the demon world, not allowing Dante to save him. And down there, broken, weak, defeated and without the powers he so much needed and desired, he still challenges Mundus as the last thing he could do... and fails. He dies and his soul becomes imprisoned in that black armor, forever becoming Mundus's slave-bodyguard as a mocking punishment for ever daring to challenge him. Until decades later, when he is freed by Dante. I believe that the moment Dante defeats Nero Angelo that 3rd time and he explodes in glowing blue flames, that was the moment teenage Nero got that demonic arm. The last shred of Vergil's soul longed for the thing he always cared the most and the thing he thought about last before dying - his son.
@Huvpalto8 жыл бұрын
And what do we have in the reboot? A pathetic whiner, who never does anything by his own, only uses his brother to do things for him to "together" defeat Mundus. Developers desperately tried to make their Vergil cool by giving him that godawful fedora (and then taking it away in the re-release), turning him into V from "V for Vendetta" with Literally Guy Fox mask and rebellious group of followers, then they make him a cool hacker and computer geek by showing him tapping buttons very quickly. But it all was alright. They fucked his character big when they wrote that scene where he SHOOTS (Everyone knows Vergil despises guns as an unhonorable weapon) a HOSTAGE PREGNANT WOMAN IN THE BACK, KILLING HER BABY, TAKING PAUSE TO LET HER REALISE IT, AND THEN KILLS HER. And what next? Nothing. They added a scene in the definitive edition where he explains this to slightly upset Dante and they both just get over it. And then something really, really retarded happens. First Vergil basically pulls a bunch of tricks out of his ass and starts flinging summon swords and teleporting (would have really helped back when he was "cornered" behind that locked door with te computer and didn't help that girl). Its like developers made most of the game, only then finally played DMC3 for a bit and decided to include these things. As well as the ending. Remember what a big dramatic conflict did Dante and Vergil have in dmc3? Remember how dramatic their final battle was after all that build-up? Well, apparently the reboot makers decided to make one to, only they forgot to write any reasons or stakes for it. So Suddenly Vergil out of nowhere becomes an evil villain and you guessed it! Wants to rule the world! A plot twist as smooth and natural as a cactus being inserted in the main writer's rectum. What a pussy-whipped bitch Dante is in that game, and how he does everything Vergil says while not giving two fucks about humans and then suddenly decides to fight for them against evil Vergil is another story. Aaaaand then we get that DLC "Vergil's downfall" where we finally learn that... THAT... That Vergil is a bitch. A pathetic, whiny, weak, inept, cowardly, socially retarded mummy's boy, who had a grudge against mum cause he thought she loved Dante more; against that girl (who he never gave two fucks about and wanted her dead, I'll remind you), because she apparently liked Dante more and believed he is a better man; against Dante for being so cool and better that he is, and against himself for of being such a bitch. In the end, we see him turn in some laughable white-skinned red-eyed abomination and then he becomes so strong and cool (nice try ninja, by telling it you won't make it true), that apparently he becomes some kind of a new king of demons and leads his new army to the promised land of sequel that I hope to God never comes.

while i'm late the party it's hard not to feel emotional from the shot after the boss fight. When Dante says "even if I have to kill you" you can feel the strain in his voice. Vergil is not an evil person, his motivations just lead him to do things like side with a mad priest, but deep down he's a flawed individual who seeks power to make up for his flaws, and part of Dante knows that. He doesn't agree with Vergil but at the same time that's also his brother, his only living family. That's why he tries to grab him at the end, not because he's doing the heroic thing but because that's his brother and he doesn't wanna lose him like he lost everything else, and when vergil falls into the abyss it's a literal and metaphorical loss of his brother as he doesn't see him for another 30-40 years, so there's alot to unpack, especially when you realize that this moment is what catalyzed the namesake of the series or at least the in lore origin and meaning of it

Undertale was specifically designed to evoke emotions, through the deconstruction of RPG Tropes they made the lives of the enemies personal. By doing this, they created discourse on whether we, as the stereotypical protagonist are inherently good. Devil May Cry wasn't designed to do that in mind. With that said, Devil May Cry did it *perfectly* even if it wasn't its initial intention. Vergil was laden with many flaws but throughout the course of the game, we as responders transpose ourselves onto Dante. Through Dante's focalization, we were able to create an attachment to his brother, Vergil. The composers were able to display the full emotional spectrum and depth behind Vergil and thus we created a relationship to his character, but importantly to Dante's as well. They made really good characters. So, because we understand Dante's circumstances we can't help but feel loss, when Vergil leaves.

@AsianMoriarty10 жыл бұрын
Adam Braunstein I believe you mean it was supposed to be a prequel, and when exactly was Vergil Evil before he turned into that knight we see in Devil May Cry 1, sure in 3 he might have seemed like it but he was just desperate to have more power to be like Sparda, and why does the story by team Ninja say that their mother was an angel when the other games by capcom say she was a human Well feel free to tell me those and even if I end up agreeing to it being a prequel I'll never choose to accept it as a worthy successor (I couldn't decide on a better word but you know what I mean) to the Devil May Cry series But on the subject of Devil May Cry, what I'd like to know now is how Nero inherited Vergil's soul

The special moments that made Devil May Cry 3 the best in the franchise: 1) The characters and the way they moved in the cutscenes. It's like watching a really good movie. 2) The brotherly drama between Dante and Vergil. From start to finish, this is the best rendition of two brothers with very different views of the world. 3) Not even going to comment on the outstanding combat system. 4) The ending with Dante's words: "Well bring it on! I love this. THIS is what I live for! I'm absolutely CRAZY about it!" 5) Lady stole the show at the end! "Let's rock, baby! It's going to be crazy, yeah! Showtime!" Couldn't have asked for a better Devil May Cry game. The others were great too, including Devil May Cry 2. That last fight in the game was pretty sick. Devil May Cry 3 is just the best.

I've always loved how when Vergil drops both the Force Edge, the symbolic representation of his father and the family's legacy of power, and the amulet, the only memento of his mother, Vergil doesn't even hesitate in choosing the amulet. The fight had proved that Dante had the might to best him so the sword rightfully goes to the son who wasn't even seeking it to begin with, but in his heart of hearts, Vergil would never give up his half of the amulet even when the power he desperately wanted was in the other hand. This also happens in the cutscene preceding mission 20 where the twins both dive into the hole the Force Edge and amulets drop into after Arkham's death and the amulets are the first thing they retrieve, the sword ALWAYS comes second. You can almost see the bewilderment in Dante's face when he looks at the Force Edge after everythings finished. "All that shit for this?" It affirms what Dante says to a fully powered Urizen about how true power comes from within and wanting to protect. And then as outside the game material would confirm, killing Vergil not once but twice after the events of DMC1 sent Dante into a spiral of depression that only gets better after he realizes that Vergil had a kid and that he wasn't alone after all.

He loves & hates his father at the same time. He hates his father because Vergil & Dante are known only as "Son of Sparda" and not for themself. What he wants is not the power of Sparda itself, but enough power to surpass his father and to be known as Vergil, not as "a son of Sparda". The "power of Sparda" is not what Arkham had but it is his sword (the one you get at the end of DMC1 which is the combination of the 2 amulets & the sword). At the end of dmc3 you saw Vergil defying Mundus, saying "If my father did it, so can I". In a way Vergil also admires him. He just wants to be at least as famous and powerfull as his father.

I'd say one of the main deciding factors in this final fight was Vergil's choice of weapon: Force Edge. While not as big as Dante's Rebellion, Force Edge is still a rather heavy weapon. Now, you're probably thinking, "But Vergil's a half-demon, he should have no problem wielding it." And for the most part, you're right. Here's the key: what weapon is Vergil most familiar with? Force Edge or Yamato? The answer is obvious. He's had more practice, more experience, and more battle testing with Yamato than Force Edge. He's used to its' weight, and as such, is able to build his skill set, his attacks, response time, counters, etc around how Yamato works. Throw a lighter or heavier weapon into the equation, and it throws everything out of whack. Vergil may be a very good swordsman, and he is, but every swordsman is specialized in one type of sword style, and that is their best style, no ifs, ands, or buts. Vergil specializes with a lighter blade than Dante does. Were Dante to wield Force Edge, he would find it fairly easy, because it's similar in size and shape to his own weapon. Yamato is not. So Vergil was using a weapon that he wasn't accustomed to using, and in that sense, it gave him a rather large handicap as a result. I won't say that it's the entire reason Vergil lost, but I will say that it was a contributing factor.
@devilsharigan9 жыл бұрын
sergeantassassin3 You forget one thing: Dante was accoustumed with his demon transformation whereas in his first encounter with Vergil, he hasn't even awakened his devil side yet. So in a sense it doesn't matter what weapon Vergil is wielding cuz the end result would be the same. In dmc1, Dante defeated a even more powerful and demonic Vergil. It speak volume about their power level. Also the true strenght come from the heart and the will of humankind and not from evilness and hatred. This parralel perfectly and respectively Dante and Vergil.
@sergeantassassin34259 жыл бұрын
sharigan_zafina will kill DMC:3, DMC:1, DMC:2. That is the chronological order of the series of events that took place in the Devil May Cry universe. And no, don't even mention DmC, because besides being a horrible storyline, it's apparently a game that takes place in an alternate DMC universe. But I digress; Dante continued to gain power, whereas Vergil was made a slave of Mundus after the events of DMC:3. Vergil had had his Devil Trigger a lot longer than Dante did, so experience-wise, Vergil trumps Dante in that category. Their weapon choices were the only marked difference, Dante's growing Trigger powers aside.
@The_Wolf_At_Your_Door9 жыл бұрын
sergeantassassin3 DMC1 Vergil actually won their first encounter before running off. Its shows that the two are on equal ground and that one doesn't always win against the other.

Actually, DmC's story had potential. Alot of potential (demons ruling over humans by mostly human means, ie: debts, mind controlling, politics, media involved, how much influence demons have over the world, etc...) but first, the characters were terrible: Donte - "El cazador de dem----- *Fuck you!*" Vershit - No honor. "I'm supersoweak. Donte 2stronk. Imma gonna steal Vergil's quote to look kewl!" Kat - Main girl plain girl. Seriously, who thought Kat was a good idea? Mundus started well, but ended up being the worst mess ever. And then, all of what I said about the story got scrapped for uhh... a few demons here and there and that's it.

1:38 Ya know, after learning a bit more about the series, I realize Vergil's thirst for power isn't because he's a power maniac. In his theme "Bury the Light", there's a line that goes "Beyond the tree, fire burns", which was a reference to the day Eva (their mom) died. While Dante was hidden inside, Vergil was outside getting stabbed by demons. He blames himself for Eva's death. Sparda was already dead and as the older twin he felt like it was his responsibility to protect his family, but he didn't, and he blames himself for that. His thurst for power stems from him wanting to protect his family

I think that this fight was more challenging than the one from DMC5 because even if you had DT ready when Vergil used his, you weren't as powerful as in DMC5. I mean, in DMC5 you could use SDT to deactivate SDT from Vergil and take half of his health with one use. I think it could have been cooler and challenging if Vergil wasn't stunned with your SDT attacks, like in DMC3 were you have to dodge almost every single attack and then go aggressively. Sorry for my english and i really think that both fights are awesome.
