I'm actually surprised that Kratos didn't regret killing Hercules, especially since Kratos clearly tried to avoid fighting him. Kratos even admitted how alike he and Hercules were. At the very least, Kratos actually acknowledged how great Hercules was as a warrior, how dangerous he was, and how much he was after the god of war's throne for the wrong reasons.

Well, Kratos might have regretted killing him if Herc was forced to fight his half-brother. But it was Hercules choice to fight, he knew the consequences, so no regrets here.

Well to be honest... Kratos gave him benefit of the doubt, given how similar their fates are - but Herc didn't listen. He made his mind up to eliminate Kratos to earn glory and power. That's why Kratos doesn't regret killing him. Magni & Modi, on the other hand, did not have a choice (although Kratos suggests otherwise before fighting them in 2018 game). It's either do as uncle says or end up like Modi with father's help. This is why Kratos feels pity towards them.

I wonder if they'll go in-depth about how Pandora's Box exacerbated the evils and insecurities of the gods. It would be an interesting analysis of the Greek gods in focusing on the differences of them from God of War 1 to their later portrayals in 2 and 3. The first game was very deliberate about how they're not benevolent, but they were still leaps and bounds better than their petty and vindicative natures in the sequels. Plus, it would be neat to see them again in some sort of afterlife setting, given the same level of writing of Ragnarok.

Hercules was basically told that he could just walk away, like many others, and that Kratos was only after Zeus in GoW3, but everyone wanted a piece of Kratos. Whether it was all worth it in the end - killing everyone just to kill his filicidal father - is another story.

It wasn't that he was powerful compared to the other gods, it was, as Kratos pointed out, *WHY* he wanted to be god of war. Kratos didn't inherently want the title but Ares was too much of a monster to be left alive not to mention his slight against Kratos. Until Zeus backstabbed Kratos for all intents and purposes it sounds like Greece was doing more or less okay. Which makes sense, Kratos wasn't a raging sack of dicks that would betray and slight his champions or those who worshipped him. Indeed, Sparta literally fought to the last against Zeus, they were so determined to see "Their" god was honored. Hell literally "The Last Spartan" aside from Kratos fought against, the literal god of war even as just a mortal man and was enough to actually hold his own for a while, neither knowing who the other was. That "Last Spartan" was so full of conviction and respect for Kratos that he was willing to go through the same harrowing shit the literal god of war was to ask the fates to bring back Sparta, free of Zeus' ravages. Hercules was none of this. He was just trying to constantly one-up himself and be bigger and badder and faster and meaner and when you put an arrogant bastard like that in such a position of power? Nothing is going to end well.

I had this theory as to why only Helios manifested in Valhalla. I think out of all the gods Kratos have regretted killing is him. Helios saved his life after all. Not only that but out of all of them gods, Helios' death affected Greece and it's people most. Maybe that's why only Helios 'returned' to him. Plus, it was also a clever way to replace Mimir's head with his during the Greek area in the innermost of Valhalla.

Kratos saved Helios in Chains of Olympus. It was pretty much the entire point of the game. And Helios saved him at the end of Chains of Olympus when Kratos fainted from exhaustion and fell from the Sun Chariot and into the sea. And lastly in 3. Helios really had no personal beef with Kratos. He was fighting him to stop Kratos from killing Zeus and tricked him by lying about the Flame, yes. But he wasn't an active dick to him.

I think it's because Heracles admitted he was only following Zeus because he wanted to be God of War while all the other Olympians could be argued to be motivated by wanting to protect Olympus their home since if Zeus does so does Olympus. Also any of the Gods dying means the world gets fucked so them saving their own skins also means saving the Greek world.

Well he did give hope back to the world with his "sacrifice." It would be very difficult but they could do some sort of rebuilding. Its never full on confirmed (IIRC) the actual state of Greece after he leaves and its been centuries since then. That and any surviving gods could have stepped in. Now gods like Artemis or Aphrodite, its debatable how effective they would be but its better than nothing, especially if they saw what came of the previous rule and decide to do better.
