Sadly Krebs being such a late Baroque composer his music is overlooked. I wish his works were played more often. Thanks for this glorious rendering!!

A wonderful piece, brilliantly played. Johann Krebs studied with J S Bach who admired Krebs ability both as an organist and composer. On hearing this piece it is obvious that there are parts very reminiscent of Bach, yet undoubtedly Johann Krebs was one of the really great composers of the late baroque. I very, very much enjoyed your performance Jan. Heartfelt thanks

Kerbs must have had a copy of bwv540 as this is almost a pastiche or homage to the piece.

Krebs was actually Bach's primary disciple, even more than Bach's sons, who moved on to the newer style galant form.

@@PointyTailofSatan Don't forget "Sorgenkind" Wilhelm Friedemann. Looks to me like this very gifted but less progressive son had a unique place in Pater Familias's heart. I cannot help but feel it in the 2nd movement of Trio Sonata II. And Jan! (If you read this.) I think you felt it too. But. You have had some great teachers. I did too. JJ Keeler who studied with Karl Straube, Leipzig, 1931-1933. You don't have to look at those years as long as I have to "get it." Straube arranged for "JJ" (as we called him) to study with his friend, Sir Ernest Bullock, at Westmimster Abbey. (...) I brought this up bc Prof Keeler had 2 quite unique "sayings," which we students heard several times: 1. Bach will lead you to the verge of tears, but never over that verge. [That's you, man. You gots good teachers!] 2. You listen to all the rest, then you wash out yout ears with Bach. Best to ya'all, and to you, lieber Jan, Mark--Rocky Mountains, V.S.v. A. (I hope against hope.)

...only old age (75+ these days 😅) and the slightest decline of +/- 10 sorts of both cognitive and phsical. But that's very obviously not Jan's problem. Hayuhll (Hell): the last thing our man should even be thinking about❤! For a long time, we gots a scrappy JSBach, or Marcel Dupré, or Helmut Walcha. And Jan would be the last to let any of those go to his head. Hoch soll er leben. Dreimal hoch! Vive M. Jean LIEBERMANN, esq.!!

A third excellent upload in just a few weeks and a 5 star performance that I look forward to replaying to get to know a work and comoser I had never heard of (Google had to be consulted again!) The rapid pedal work at the start leaves me speechless and a comparison with Bach inevitable - it must have been difficult to compose overshadowed by him(?) Many thanks for it

Time to learn BWV 548, which in the English speaking world we call the "Wedge" P&F - not sure if that translates into German. It is a lot of work, it is arguably the longest prelude and fugue, but you will have a lot of fun playing it ! I had a blast playing it on my senior organ recital.

I wondered if Right Foot could have been used more in the lower octave for more assured accuracy for ordinary organists? Are you following strict practice in Baroque organ technique? Or should one be more eclectic?

Sadly, Krebs active period was both post-Bach, and post Baroque. The new, simpler style galant form was becoming increasingly popular, and the denser, more complex Baroque form considered old fashioned. Kudos to Krebs for sticking to holding the torch for the Baroque form, but the result was he was pretty much ignored his whole musical life. Thus Krebs music became primarily of interest of modern classical organists only.
