I’ve been buying from VEVOR since before Covid. Always delivered value for money products. They are not competing with the best out there but they are certainly much better than the cheapest out there. If you’re a hobbyist and looking for something that will do you well for “every now and then” DIY projects, then they are the brand to look at imo.

I think you set up your link to amazon incorrectly as it took me to a timed out page - if you are trying affiliate shopping you need to change this - will wat a few days before I buy and try again

Thanks both, I’m new here and am not big enough to be accepted yet. Was just going to put a non affiliate link so people can still check it out, then update when I’m big enough for bezos to care about me. Thanks for looking out, appreciate it.

This popped up in my feed. I've been using my home made pocket hole jig, made from a teak base plywood sides and teak guide block with mild steel guides. I bought one from Rutland tools (Bakewell, UK) which felt nice, though was not much better than mine, it got a wipe down and went back. In mine, the drill in the guides are not snug, and dont get clean pocket holes, The Rutland jig was £99 and a slight improvement. This looks nice. What diameter are the drill bits? i.e metric or imperial?
@sawdust934
@sawdust934 57 минут бұрын
Yea I’m not far from Bakewell so know Rutlands. The drill bits are 10mm.

Reminds me of the original Kreg version, which I bought, that was aluminum. As for the expense of Kreg, their manufacturing is in Iowa, not China, so supporting a western company and western jobs, if we can is important.

Yea I know, unfortunately uk salaries are about half of US ones at the moment (thanks brexit) so the premium on US made products is way more noticeable these days. This seems like a steep premium for a product that isn’t exactly hand crafted. Now a US made fender guitar vs Mexican made, that is where the premium is more palatable.

Good tip; thanks. If, however, like me you may not have very many pocket holes to drill, Mr Bezos has listings for even cheaper (aluminium) versions that only have a screw clamp, rather than the lever action clamp. More money in the pocket may offset the extra time it might take to set up each joint with a little bit more rigour - you “pays your money and takes your choice”. ps - think I have, in the depths of the shed, a version that is cheaper still and is just the guide block; this will take even more care to set up (G clamps) to get accurate/repeatable joints but if you’re only wanting to drill a few holes, it may be the way to go.

Yea I agree, I did look at the cheaper options but settled somewhere in the middle. Once I have finished my workbench I’m going to be building cabinets around the shop (which I will be filming) so given the fact that I will also be messing around sorting out a camera it’s just one less thing to slow me down. Filming slows me down enough as it is!😅

Sorry, I was probably aiming my message at your subscribers! You’ve obviously got a lot more going on in your shed than perhaps many DIYers, and need the speed and ease of setup. Have you considered doing a video/review of the other side of pocket hole fixings? I’m thinking of the screw itself. We have various price points of Kreg, Trend, Triton and a host of lesser known brands (that probably have more ‘sea miles’). You could look at quality of thread (cut and hold capacity) as well as strength (tensile & bending), head forming (socket & shoulder) and the resulting joint strength (without glue?). An end objective, like the jig, being VFM. You may not have the capacity to do fully scientific testing but a subjective view would, I think, be interesting.

Good guide thanks, is there absolute need to use expensive pocket hole specific screws?
@sawdust934
@sawdust934 3 сағат бұрын
Not really, but they have a pan head on them so they are less likely to blow through and just keep going through the joint. I suppose the way to think about it is -what’s more expensive, the screws or replacing the wood that you drilled too far through. You are also supposed to do small squeezes on the drill to reduce this risk too.

Good tip on the Vevor. I have other products of theirs such as a limb saw on a long pole. Good stuff at reasonable prices. I just looked this up on Amazon here. There is a 34-piece kit with the clamp and a hard case for just over $47. Not too bad. I have a small $35 US Kreg jig, but would like the benchtop version. This is a great alternative. Thanks for the well shot and well executed video. Hey - nice bench and shop by the way. Best from the U.S.

34 piece kit at $47, sounds like a steal. You never know with some of these companies but I was impressed. Thanks for the comment. Best from the UK :-)
