Another great review TMF 👍. I’ve owned a Kreiga R35 for 11 years or so now and only have good things to say about it. My R35 has been all over the UK and Europe with me and has served me well, in all conditions. Its extremely comfortable to wear when loaded, which never ceases to amaze me. I’ve even crashed while wearing it. Twice! It still bares the scars but is still going strong 💪 A cracking bit of kit, as are the other Kreiga items I own. Money well spent I’d say 👍

Used this bag for a nine day tour of Scotland, fully loaded feels excellent on your back. two days of torrential rain outer pockets fail, sandwich bags solve this problem!! I removed the dry bag from the main bag, and theirs a puddle of water in the bottom. so remove items of clothing from the dry bag, a little damp at the bottom just condensation. Other than that dry. have since brought the US20 another great bag. Nice review cheers

Can you explain what you mean about the outer pocket failing?

I have the US10, r15 and r30 and they are all great bits of kit. I use the r30 a lot when flying as it's the perfect size for a carry on and has enough space for a long weekend. The only thing I would say to them being expensive is the 10 year warranty and from what others have said they should easily last that plus some more years. Because the outer pockets are only water resistant but really not for long I sprayed the outside with a waterproof treatment from nikwax and it keeps them dry now in anything but heavy rain.

Yes I should have mentioned the 10 year guarantee, that in itself is quite something to say about a product isn't it....

I’ve had the Kriega R20 for a few years and never had noticed gear inside getting wet. The zips are good too, making it unlikely to lose things from the pockets. The shoulder straps have dot markings to ensure you get the bag balanced on your back correctly. Good bit of kit.

Had mine for many years and it is a truly excellent bit of kit. Mine is old enough to have the original name on it which is “Krug”, not Kreiga. Apparently, they had to change the name due to copyright issues. not cheap but after all these years and huge amount of use, worth every penny.

Still have my R25. It's about 15 years old, still solid, comfy and completely waterproof. IMPO quality has reduced a little over the years (vol/margins?) but mine still has the belt and braces parachute style chunky metal claps and stuff. Feels like the best rucky I'll ever buy. And I've bought a lot!

Highly recommended, I still have the first iteration of the R35, getting on for something like 7-8 years old now and going strong. The only wear to speak of is that I've 'claimed' it with a stain in the netting from a Redex leak. I've since purchased the R8 waist pack, which is good, although the position of the plastic clip makes it contact the fuel tank, it'd be better situated further to the side.

Nice review, I have used the R30 for a couple of years and as you say it's a great piece of kit, although the two outer pockets are prone to let anything inside of them get wet in heavy rain, I also have an R20 with a Kriega waterproof liner for my work commute of a 100 miles a "Harness pocket" with a couple of the "Kube Organisers" and a "US5 Dry Pack, the combination gives me so much flexibility and I bought most of them from Ebay, you can pick up decent used ones at a much reduced cost, either way in my opinion they are worth it.

Word of caution regarding the Kriega 10 year warranty. The waterproof liner inside the rucksack is likely not covered. I owned a US-20 tail bag which i used for commuting daily for around 2 years when the inner liner failed disastrously in the pouring rain. The whole contents of the bag including my wallet and iPod were drenched. Kriega refused to replace the liner under the warranty as they said it was a wear and tear item.

I have the R25 and love every bit about it. It´s not until you get this backpack between your hands that you can see why they they carry the hefty price tag. If its looked after it will last forever no doubt about it. I agree it could be cheaper but the build quality and the stitching is absolutely superb not to mention the quad lock system which is a breeze to operate even with gloves on and this combined with the thick back padding makes it so much so that you barely even notice the weight of a heavy loaded pack when it´s on due to the weight distribution . I could of used the R30 for a little more space but liked the look of the R25 instead . I carry a waterproof bag roll in one of the pockets to use if it looks like I´m going to get caught out in a heavy down pour though I´ve never had to use it . As you say the R25 is water resistant in light showers . Great review though .

Great bag I brought one myself earlier in the year can definitely vouch for its waterproof abilities rode from Birmingham to Johnstonebridge in very heavy rain, when I reached my hotel everything inside including the outer pockets was completely dry. +TheMissenderFlyer I had a motorcycle crash a month ago, front crash, flew over the front of the car and landed on road on my back (I also use D3O back protector) and this backpack handled the impact very well. The paramedics had to cut off one of the straps to take it out of my back to be sent to the hospital. I would like to say another good point on Kriega is that after I contacted them about the strap they promptly said to send it back to them to be fixed, at no extra cost for me (other than shipping). Another interesting fact about this bag is that Triumph has their own branded R30's in their shops

Got to agree with your review. I bought the Triumph branded version, still a Kriega R30, and branded as such, but with the addition of Triumph logos. I rode back home through two hours of heavy snow and rain. Hein Gericke Sheltex trousers well and truly leaked, but those outer pockets on the R30 stayed bone dry. Bleedin' 'ell - £145!!! It has some nice features specifically for motorcyclists, but I still think that is way too much for a rucksack. You could get something fully waterproof for a third of that price and I doubt it would be significantly more uncomfortable. I use an old eurohike roll top rucksack for day trips and I've never felt it was a hassle to use, but then I tend not to carry a chain on my back - wouldn't want to land on it should I take a spill, so maybe I don't carry quite as much weight on my back as you.

Hi again. Apologies for going off subject but this is your latest video & would love to pick your brains regarding audio on all your videos as is so clear with excellent commentary! May I ask which microphone do you use or do you use the Sena Bluetooth Audio Pack for GoPro? I have spent the entire weekend making test videos with my newly purchased GoPro Hero Silver 4 camera on my GSA motorcycle (the video quality is just brilliant) because as mentioned earlier I am going to start vlogging on KZbin. However, my voice on the videos is nowhere near your standard as I really can't hear myself. I have searched KZbin about the Sena product & it seems the answer as it cuts out wind noise & no wires going to the GoPro so just wanted to get your take on the audio side of things! Many thanks in advance as I really would appreciate your imput!

+Robert Taylor Hi Robert, to date I have used GoPro hero 2 cameras that use a standard 3.5mm jack plug for the mic, so a bog standard £10 lavalier mic from eBay works just fine. I've come so close to buying the R25 or R35, but I've never pulled the trigger because I'm always choking on the price for a backpack. Does the top of the bag ever contact your helmet on the Duc? I've been using an Oxford waterproof roll top for some time. The harness is hardly comfortable, but the real deal breaker is it rides too high on my shoulders and jam into the back of my helmet.

Thanks for the kind words Derek, I have one of those mega heavy duty numbers from Oxford products - can't remember the exact model off-hand but a quick Google will sort you out. Hope you manage to find the right bike soon....all the best - TMF

sorry to revive a dead post, but am looking at getting a waterproof Kriega rucksack. They now have the R22 in addition to the R30, almost the same price. How did you get along with the R30? am looking for a do it all rucksack, daily stuff to 1-2 week + touring on my Tenere, so it will involve unpaved roads too. Do you recon itll be comfy stood up (not fully loaded)? Thanks

@kevintaylor93308 жыл бұрын
Not as such. It has chest and waist straps and you can adjust them so it rests on the seat. I only carry light stuff in it as I only use it on my 125 for work. Anywhere else I use my Tracer with its top box.

Considering buying this backpack for school. I commute in the rain sometimes. My question is can you wear this pack without clipping the chest thingy? will it still be comfortable?
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Not really....would feel a bit unstable I reckon.....

I use it pretty much for anything when I require a backpack, the chest thing will be the thing you will miss the most when using a another backpack.

Another fab review, thanks! On another subject I'm afraid I can't keep this secret any longer. It's been confirmed to me by the great man himself that you are in fact the younger/or is it older brother, of Shane(Shaky) Byrne, how you've managed to keep this quiet for so long baffles me, perhaps the odd gift of a free Ducati is the reason! Please don't bother denying it as it will only alienate you from your followers, you should use Shane's success in a positive way, he told me he doesn't mind what you do! cheers tony

Nice bag but I really don't know how these manufacturers can justify prices like that, you can buy a 100% waterproof liner for less than a tenner and stick it inside a less expensive bag and get the same results!
@pabehan205 жыл бұрын
Yeah agreed...but it's the 'quadlock' system we are really paying for! Well worth it by all accounts after a day's riding with a full pack on. Haven't heard a bad word about it apart from the price!

The R25 is more visually appealing but I've been riding in the rain more often and have to go with something waterproof.

Yes it was the water proofing aspect that made me go for this one too...

I just put a big, black, sturdy nylon bag inside my R25, that solved the problem. Easy to replace, 100% water/sweatproof. :)

I have the R35 rucksack, plus a tank adapter, and US10 and US5. Kriega make a big deal about how it can be used together, such as a US 10 attached to a R35. The kit is excellent, though it took me a good hour or two of experimentation to figure out the permutations of how if can be used together. My plan had been to use US10 on tank, with US5 attached to R35 for long haul trips, but I found that the US5 won't attach to the R35, which was surprising and a disappointing. So, If I carried the US10, it had to be on the R35 (so more weight on me), while the lighter US5 would be on the tank. It would also be handy if those packs that are used on tank could have a clear plastic panel for maps or even phone. Other than that, great kit. My set-up is shown in my pinned tweet twitter.com/nigelstreet
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
Wow, quite a set up there Nigel (nice bike by the way!) - does the US10 not make access to the pockets on the R35 difficult? ...I may have to investigate these add-on packs...cheers for watching and for stopping by - TMF
@nigelpstreet8 жыл бұрын
Cheers TMF. Yes, the outer pockets can't be accessed with the packs attached, so when I went on my road trip it was the set-up I used for getting stuff from A to B (with the stuff I needed in the tank bag). I would then leave the rucksack and one of the smaller packs at the hotel, and just use the either the smaller or larger pack as a tank bag. Oh, I also have the small harness pocket, which is meant to go on the rucksack straps ...except it doesn't fit on the R35 (I now see their website says 'Fits all rider packs excluding R35', not sure if that's been added recently). It's very flexible kit, but just not quite as flexible as it seems. Thanks for the comment re my Street Triple, love it. On a different note, I mentioned in a previous comment that I replaced the battery on that bike with a Lithium Iron battery. A couple of months in and it's performed flawlessly - so much lighter! Recommended for your Panigale! Cheers, Nigel

The lack of a ziplocked clear panel on the smaller bags is what keeps me from buying them as a tank/seat bag.
