Tips on up bow staccato and the 9ths and 10ths ? Both new techniques for me 😢
@fortepianostrings4 жыл бұрын
*Up-bow staccato* 1. Practice them first as legato to figure out the bow distribution (how much bow to use for each note). 2. As you add the staccatos back in, make sure your bow hair bites the string before each staccato while keeping the proper bow distribution from #1. Practice slowly and stop before each note to bite the string until you hear each note clearly. 3. Practice with different patterns of accents. For example, you can start by accenting every other note, reverse accents, and then accent every 3 notes, etc. *Extensions - 9th/10th's* 1. Start by finding the higher note on the 4th finger and adjust your hand frame so you feel comfortable on that note. 2. While keeping the finger on the string for the higher note, stretch down with the 1st finger to find the lower note. Once both notes are in tune, adjust your hand frame with both fingers down if needed and use your muscle memory to remember the distance between the fingers and the hand frame. 3. When you go back to practicing the passage as written, make sure you prepare for the extension before the lower note. Hope it helps! Good luck! :)

Any advice for having a strong pinky/vibrato on the really high notes and also for extended fourth fingers without tension?
@fortepianostrings4 жыл бұрын
I would adjust the arm position (elbow forward in high positions) to make sure the pinky is coming down from above the string rather than reaching up or sideways to get to the note. The pinky should be standing up tall forming an arch over the string so it is strong, but not tense. Hope it helps!

Do you have any advice on how to improve the trills between 3rd and 4th fingers, and/or strengthening the 4th finger?
@fortepianostrings4 жыл бұрын
Focusing on the lifting motion rather than coming down onto the string might help you improve the clarity of the trills. Make sure you are moving your 4th finger (and all the other fingers as well) from your knuckle, not your fingertip!

Do you have any advice on how to get a full tone and a wide/developed vibrato?
@fortepianostrings4 жыл бұрын
Always adjust according to the sound you hear back as you vibrate! Try playing the note without any vibrato and watch the way string vibrates, and match the width and speed of your vibrato to what you see.

You are very good! When you play the 10ths in measures 30 to 33, what do you do with the thumb? Do you keep the thumb in the 3rd position with 1st finger or move it up to 5th to make the stretch easier?
@fortepianostrings4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Monica! I would imagine it would be slightly different depending on the hand size, finger length, etc., but in my case, I put my thumb slightly close to whichever finger is stretching. It seems like mine ends up across my 2nd finger. Try finding both 1st finger and 4th finger notes and with both fingers on the strings, take off your thumb and wiggle it around until you feel relaxed and set it back down wherever it feels most natural to you. That's probably where you'd want to be with your thumb. Good luck!

Hello, for the double stops, I keep getting stuck on fourth finger trills and connecting the grace notes after it on both measures 18 and 46... Is there any tips (and practices that I can do to improve on it) that you can provide for this section?
@fortepianostrings4 жыл бұрын
For a smoother transition into the grace notes you have to have the 2nd finger between G string and D string to cover both strings right from the beginning of the measure--for example, 2nd finger on B and F# in m.18 and on F# and C# in m. 46. For the 4th finger trills, make sure you're lifting and dropping the finger from the knuckle, not the fingertip. Focus on clarity of the trills rather than trying to fit in many trills. I'd say 2 trills are probably more than enough in those measures. Kreutzer #19 is a good etude for practicing 4th finger trills!
