Krieg was probably at the bottom pile list of the plethoras of the unimportance. They most likely thought that Krieg was not that valuable to put too much effort into, and just let whoever there is available over there sort it out themselves. It’s like that tiny pipe leakage and you just thought “Yeah that look fine still, I’ll patch it up tomorrow” and tommorow turned into next week, and into next month, and before you know it, you goes “Oh SHlT, didn’t realize it was leaking that much!” and you quickly decided to plug the leaking hole up with some dirt, hope and duct tape. That’s what happens when you have more than 4 Quadrillion humans, Millions of planets and tens of Millions of colonies, under the Imperium. That’s a lot of corpse starches.

Irony is a very common 40k thread. The most secure vault in the universe is sealed with the final lock being the knock "Shave and a Haircut, Three Bits." Even today, the name of the jingle is rarely known, in the 30th or so millennium when the vault first becomes important, it may as well be arcane knowledge.

That line suited best for Cadian tbh, since it’s in a literal way too. You know, I’m just pondering about it, when your home is the one and only thing that is stopping the entire forces of demons from flowing out and buttfking every single one of your relatives and then to the rest of mankind, while splitting the galaxy in half, yeah, I would probably want every single citizen counted for. No man nor woman are non essential personnel, not a single soul can be idle even for a second, every children would start shooting their first Lasgun at the age of 7, get their first basic military training at 12, and be stationed at 16. Imagine how our planet Earth in our timeline would be like, if all 7 Billion of us are soldiers with our entire planet dedicated into being just a giant fortress, instead of International Space Station it would be a giant cannon that beam sun-like laser into the void, instead of the Artic Station it would be humongous turret that shoot hiroshima-sized nukes into the stratosphere. That would be astonishingly scary, just imagine the sense of unity and patriotism, all for the same cause of fighting against the forces of chaos and warp daemons. Yet, despite all of that, Cadia still fell, but the Guards didn’t 🫡

No wonder the empire most of the times just sit its ass waiting to see what happens when reinforcements are requested. It worked like wonders with Krieg. Instead of another random hive world they essentially got an elite soldier factory in echange of nothing

Well the issue is that was a rare case of lucky success. Ususally, you get a dead or ravaged world, that you need to painfully rebuild if it can even be done. And if unlucky, you get a deamon world spewing chaos and nightmares of the Warp on every nearby world

Krieg in its Hive World form was very valuable. Hive worlds in general are very valuable, they are already soldiers factory by default (because massive population = massive pool of recruits) but also gigantic factories for various products including wargear and provide good anchorage for naval ships. They are also mercantile hubs.

Coronel Jurten might have lost a daughter, but he became the father of countless million of soldiers that will fight and die for humanity, the imperium, krieg, and of course the emperor.

@@chazbrown1139 Although I meant it poetically, In the first contanct with the imperium after the civil war the krieger idetifies himself has Coronel Jorten years after Jorten's death so there is a chance there are straigh up Jorten clones in the DKoK or that use part of his DNA so there is a chance that he is the literal father of the DKoK at a genetic level. Edith there is also a chance that since Kriegers don't have a name when he was asked his name he said the only name he Knew Jorten.

@@chazbrown1139 From my understanding the Vitae Womb is not really a cloning machine (as in identical copies of a single individual), and more of a mass incubator where "test tube babies" are produced in truly industrious capacity. So they wouldn't all share the same physical characteristics, they wouldn't really be clones at all, they would be the biological children of those who donated the reproductive material (sperm and eggs)

Naming fact: "Krieg" means "war" in German. However the verb form "kriege" no longer relates to war. It instead means "acquire" or "catch". So the world of Krieg, was consumed by acquisition of wealth. Instead it caught a case of war.

Krieg is a German word and means war. In combination with the WW1 esthetic of Krieg soldiers’ uniforms, helmets and gas masks, the similarities are striking.
