Interested in the sort of speakers you got the replacement and if it improved the sound much? Do they need to be 15 ohm ones?

These speakers came from Jaycar and were intended to be installed in the ceiling. they are two way speakers and are 8 ohms and would be the lowest I would use. They sound very good.

Jamesnov1970 thanks. I was in there today looking at the Jaycar 8ohm speaker but wasn’t sure how they would go with the amp. Current old speakers are 15. I swapped out the Default turntable with a Garrard lab 80 today and it’s an amazing improvement

I would assume it would need to be modified to fit as the fittings are not the same. I had no choice with the speaker as the originals were eaten away.

@@Jamesnov1970 yes, need to alter that turntable hole to fit the 'new' one in. Likewise for the speakers will need some fiddling. Actually considering leaving the speakers as is now because the turntable has improved matters a huge amount.

Well if the speakers are intact I would leave them alone,

Just curiously how much do you think these are worth? I’m looking at one that has working speakers and turn table but the wooden lid has stains all over it what would you think would be a good price, they are offering $250 Australian dollars

For me no more than a $100. You have to take into account if it is all original then there is safety concerns Ageing electrolytic capacitors can short then cause the transformer to overheat and catch on fire. If it was almost mint I would maybe give what they asking providing it had been restored electronically . I give mine away.

This is a late reply but my mum bought hers for $189 AUD in the late 60s or early 70s

I don't think the cartridge needs replacing. Stylus perhaps, but cartridge sounds fine.
@Jamesnov19707 жыл бұрын
There is an internal connection problem with the cartridge, that is why there is a cable tie on the tone arm putting pressure on the pins so it can work....
@neilforbes4167 жыл бұрын
Oh, so it's more of an internal mechanical problem with the cartridge itself, possibly a dry joint manifest when the cartridge was first assembled. That's my guess, for what it's worth.
