In a narrow bylane of Seshadripuram sits Babu and Latha’s home from where they tend to a 20-year-old tradition of making and serving a naati style chicken biryani. There is no signboard on the premises, but the aroma that wafts out onto the street from their kitchen at noon each day is enough to signal its presence to passers by. A home business that began 20 years ago with the recipe from Babu’s mother is now carried forward by his wife, they sell a wholesome biryani for Rs. 100, which with three or four pieces of chicken and an egg, is sumptuous enough to feed two. This tiny eatery also dishes out a simple anna-sambar-rasam-vade meal for the vegetarians. I tag along with restaurateur, Prathiksha Nayak, who introduces me to this delicious memory from her college years in the area.

Thank you so much sir, for visiting the ‘Babu Biriyani’ I am a big fan of you and following all your videos, my family use to live in the same building long back and I was born in the same house, later house family moved to Chennai. Babu biriyani used to be my favorite food for the lunch box and later my class friends loved the food as well. And remember most of the time they won’t take money for the food as I was a small kid and live in the same building. And I remember Babu's uncle’s ultimate dialogue was “EXTRA RICE AKUSKOLI, VOTTE TUMA VOOTA MADI” which means have extra rice and fulfill your stomach without paying me extra money. And Latha Aunty Is a very hard worker and good human being, She starts work early morning at 5 AM, she keeps busy in the kitchen every day except Saturday, as the hotel will be closed on Saturdays. vasane is just smell, dhurvasane is bad smell, suvasane is good smell 🙂

Louis must be from our Karaavali Pradesha, where Vaasane invariably means Durvaasane by default. On a similar note people in Namma Mysuru-Bengaluru actually mean TenginaKaayi when they say Kaayi, Kaayi Chutney, KaayiHaalu, KaayiObbattu etc.
