I was wanting to set-up a stock tank pond outdoors for the longest time but I live in Florida and was concerned about heat and critters. However, you inspired me to do an indoor pond in my office and I am so happy with the results. I used almost every Amazon linked item in your build which was extremely helpful. It's not quite as imaginative as yours, but it's still a work in progress.

@kripkethechameleonfriends45055 жыл бұрын
I saw a stock container with a small window but it was on the larger gallon scale and very pricy. I also did not like the lite blue color they came in. It's probably best to have a customized glass aquarium. This is just simple alternative, but you can check out my pond ideas video to see some of the changes I made to enhance it a bit😊

What do you think? Could I keep a few koi (4-8) in a 150 gal size of this?
@kripkethechameleonfriends45056 жыл бұрын
I don't want to be a bummer but many years ago I get a kept Five 4 inch prized koi in a 140 Gallon stock container but they out grew it quickly and I had to rehome all of them by the next summer😥 Koi and single finned comet like goldfish require massive volumes of water. Your best bet is slow swimming fancies if your into that type of fish.

Help! We purchased almost everything on your list to make a pond for our fish but the flat box filter of the Tetra Pond Filtration Fountain Kit keeps floating up and all around! How do you keep your flat box filter from floating up without putting ugly bricks or something on top of it?
@kripkethechameleonfriends45052 жыл бұрын
My apologies for the late response. Once the the container pond is filled 3/4 up, the should submerge easily. Maybe the new sponges needed to break in a bit and needed a rock to sink. I am sure you are fine now but wish you all the best😊

Such a nice setup! I have most to the components already. I love those stock tanks for growing out juvenile fish, but never thought that a big piece of black plastic can actually be so decorative. For lighting, what are you using over the stock tank? Are you finding sufficient light with that? I'm using old 4' t5 light fixtures but they look ugly.
@kripkethechameleonfriends45056 жыл бұрын
Outback888 Lim Thanks for checking us out. Since it's a pond and they are temporarily indoors for the winter I allow natural light through our panoramic view windows. At night I use a small full spectrum LED light.
@ed8ted8t6 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. Is there a particular brand/model of LED light you would suggest? The ones that I have doesn't secure onto the overhang very well and others can't handle the width of the lip of the Rubbermaid stock tank.

Miss Girl Girl Goldfish much prefer Short, Long and Wide pondlike structures vs Tall and Narrow like an aquarium. I have more goldies but I'm just showing these 3 extra large ones which are 7 inches plus as a demo. They will survive but its not ideal. Hi i followed your suggestions and bought this tank but bigger size (70g). I just received it today . Can I just rinse this stock tub using only tap water before I put my goldfish in ? My fish (3 of them ) r currently in my 30g container tank ( cycled ) so I want to move them to the Rubbermaid 70g asap . Pls let me know what else I need to know to make sure the new tub won’t poison my fish . Thank you
@kripkethechameleonfriends45057 жыл бұрын
Miss Girl Girl That's great, simply wash thoroughly with a cloth and warm water and it's best to allow the pond to cycle with it's filter etc since it's new and use a fresh water test kit to monitor the water levels to ensure longterm safety🤗
@kingston58857 жыл бұрын
Kripke The Chameleon & Friends thank you ! Can’t I just move my Aquaclear 70 already cycles filter to this new tub for instant cycle for my goldfish ? Also just to reconfirm , I DONT need to mix white vinegar with tap water before the first use of the Rubbermaid tub , right ?
@kripkethechameleonfriends45057 жыл бұрын
Miss Girl Girl Many people have different ways of cycling and cleaning tanks so use what best works for you, but what I notice when rushing the cycle process many levels quickly get out of control. If mission critical just be sure to use the Fluval/Nutrafin cycle, keep monitoring and do water changes as needed
@kingston58857 жыл бұрын
Kripke The Chameleon & Friends thank you again ! I don’t worry about the ammonia and nitrite as I can commit to daily water changes but I was more concerned the material of the tub would be a bit poisonous to fish . One more thing , have u use PraziPro before ? Do I need to treat my new goldfish with PraziPro before I put them in my main tank ?
@kripkethechameleonfriends45057 жыл бұрын
Miss Girl Girl No not unless you notice any of your current fish is sick or adding any new fish with unknown history. But it's good to keep handy especially if having them out doors like I did with patio pond. If you're concern about the stock container long term use, or poisoning your fish you can also consider putting a pond liner in there whenever.

Could I keep a few goldfish in here their entire lifespan or will they get too big?
@kripkethechameleonfriends45056 жыл бұрын
Allison Yes for Fancy goldfish, not the comet/common single fin goldfish that looks like Koi fish that swim fast and can jump. If they ever grow as big as mine being over 7 inches only 2 or 3 max. I use this as a Winter Pond then put them in the Patio Pond from Spring late Spring through early Fall. I have that Patio Pond video as well☺

Grrrr I realized the AquaClear70 doesn’t fit the Rubbermaid Stock Tub !! The Tub lip is just too thick ! How Can I make it work to let my filter sit firmly ?!
@kripkethechameleonfriends45057 жыл бұрын
Miss Girl Girl I know it's very unfortunate to not fit, but trust me longterm it's better to use the inpond filters for not only better fit, but great surface agitation and overall water filtration volume. If you end up eventually getting one, make sure it filters double or triple the amount of water the pond has and you can adjust accordingly.

Miss Girl Girl As mentioned I'm not a vet and don't want to steer anyone in the wrong direction because what works for me, may be conflictive to another persons opinion and in the end it's all optional. Fin rot can be from be from a series of things from the tank being uncycled, overstocked, improper water changes etc. You can contact me on Instagram messenger and we'll figure this out.

I have some questions. Can this setup be permanent or for winter? Also how many goldfish can be in one before they become cramped
@kripkethechameleonfriends45057 жыл бұрын
Adrian's Pets It can be permanent and a better choice over most aquariums which are tall and narrow, because goldies prefer long, short and wide pondlike structures. I just use it usually in the winter or as a display. It depends on the size of your goldies, if they are over 7inches like the ones in this video, no more than 3

Adrian's Pets how many goldfish can go in here depends if they are commons/single tails, which need min 75 gallons with 10 gallons more for each extra goldfish, Or fancys/double tails like the ones in the video which need 20 gal minimum iirc with 10 gal extra for each extra goldfish.

Kripke The Chameleon & Friends You know I’ve use this for years and I just have used it to replenish the slime coat I had no idea or even read about it dechlorinating. I’ve been using it to chlorinator also LOL my bad I do use prime when I do my water changes

Guppy Gal & Tanzie the Ragdoll it depends on the brand. Some are just water conditioners/slime replenishers, other's do contain a dechlorinator. Read the description on your particular bottle to find out.

does it make the room humid and smelly??
@kripkethechameleonfriends45056 жыл бұрын
James K My home has central air, but even when off we haven't noticed any smells, that's why It's important to cycle your pond/tank well and do your weekly water changes☺
@jamesk39826 жыл бұрын
i cycled my indoor pond but the water evaporates extremely quick. Any other tips?
@kripkethechameleonfriends45056 жыл бұрын
James K I'm in NY so in the winter it's fine, and in the summer I move them into their bigger pond on my patio and it evaporates much faster but not to the point of any concern, possibly because I have a few large pond plants which gives them extra shade. Other than that I just do my weekly water changes and top it off. I would not suggest covering it because that's where you may run bad odors etc especially indoors.

Awesome. I'm in the process of doing one myself. I've had them in the past and enjoyed them as a permanent fixture. Great to breed guppies and minnows.
