Gorgeous place! Fyi, in case you ever consider investing in a second home with bamboo, be aware. It needs to be treated before installed, otherwise it will be destroyed quickly. I saw this small documentary about some public structures made from bamboo in Manabi, and that's where this was addressed. They also pointed out how many such constructions use untreated bamboo. It's seems to be trendy right now to build with bamboo. I see it everywhere.

Kris and Mike, Thank you for this informative video and all the others you've made! My fiancée (from Canada) and I (from New York State) will be visiting Olon this February. We are looking forward to the trip but I just can't seem to completely appreciate whether flying into Guayaquil and spending a night there will be safe, and overall, a good experience. We need to spend a night in Guayaquil before making our way to Olon since our flight wont arrive until around midnight. Can you offer any first-hand information about safety/security around the Guayaquil airport/lodging for one night? Thank you much! Russ

There are a few hotels right beside the airport. Under a 5 minute taxi ride. You will have no issues. maps.app.goo.gl/AZghFTerxZrf175XA Holiday inn Guayaquil airport is excellent. You will be comfortable. We and family have done this many times.

Excellent video presentation, thank you for your effort. About how many homes are available for rental? I know it changes with time, but are there more than this one house you showed on the video? We enjoyed our time visiting Olon this past February and especially meeting the two of you and sharing a lunch. Your videos keep us well informed about Ecuador and we still think of it fondly. Honestly, our upcoming elections in November will likely have an impact on our decision to implement our "Plan B". I expect there could be a significant exodus of frustrated gringos. I know for me, if the bad guys win, I don't want to stick around much longer and we'll be seeking a more peaceful place to enjoy. We'll keep watching your videos either way. Thanks again.

Rentals that expats usually like start around $600 and up. There are smaller places that are less finished but quite nice for $350 ish in the area.

Kris and Mike, thanks for the video! This community is beautiful! My wife and I stayed in Cuenca for about three weeks last summer and fell in love with it. However, we really have thought about a beach town and Olon seems to look perfect. The only downside we "warned" about is the humidity. We were told things like "your clothes never dry," and "you are always damp." What is your take on this?

Yes it is humid. But not quite that bad. Lol. But you definitely need air conditioning and /or a pool to really enjoy the heat.

Mike - the overhead drone shots reminded me of a video you did on a project to develop the waterway between Olon and Valles de Olon that lead to some pushback and even maybe legal action by the local community. Are you aware of any updates?

Screened in porches are not common. You can sit outside at dusk in most areas without bugs. Really depends on exact location and time of year. Yes the subdivision has lots for sale and they have many models to choose from. Not really custom and more expensive than finding a good resale that you can renovate.

Taxi,bus or regular driver. All are very affordable. You can walk into Olon in 20 min.

Great question. I would say about 70% are owned by wealthier Ecuadorians who live in Guayaquil and use it on weekends and holidays. It's a real mixture of people. The Olon area is a major tourist are for people in Guayaquil. About 3 hours away.

I am not sure. That is pretty high number of dogs. I think it would reduce your number or possible rentals significantly plus there is the cost of getting the dogs here, vet appointments etc. Not impossible tho by any means.

It was not for sale. Just an example of houses in that community. One like that would be $150k to $160k. It was on a corner lot.
