It's very difficult to understand how this great song was not #1 on both country and pop charts for weeks and weeks.

Agree, I think the average person who's heard of him or heard a few of his songs don't know how he can use words to make a song come to life

This song touches me, but who is the tired-sounding women who said: "I put on new stockings... Casey, it's a shame to be alone"? Is she a mistress, or how does he relate to her?
@mariegarside883015 күн бұрын
The woman who said it's a shame to be alone is his mother yearning for a visit from her son.

Kristofferson can write the most DEPRESSING lyrics (said in a Good Way). I don't really understand what's going on - was she a former lover? A mistress? And while I like this version, I do prefer Emmylou's version for the singing.

I finally found another person my age as a teenager who was a Kris fan. She said it perfectly, "His singing makes you feel like you want to crawl away and die".

Waylon does a good job with these lyrics but there's still some up-beatness to the way he sings it. Kris (despite his imperfect voice) just gets that EMOTION through in his singing to make you feel the intensity of emotions in his lyrics
