Hey, yeah in metal muddy is as useless as muffled so I get it. 😂 If you go for cranked small amps or fuzz pedals there's a little more to differentiate between those. But I know, that's a veeeery different kinda guitar rig for radically different sounds.

I'd say "tight" is tied to the low end. A HPF can be used to "tighten" up low end. You did clarify this when you said it's the opposite of "muddy". Great video!!

@KrisBarocsiАй бұрын
I really appreciate that! 🙌 The pickups in my tele are hand wound Fender Custom Shop Nocaster single-coils. So yeah, super low output, vintage style pickups and they are insanely good.
@hagzgamboaАй бұрын
@@KrisBarocsiHey, Kris. Many thanks for taking time to reply! That's excellent about the pups. I was thinking that actually. I also have a very similar custom shop 52 with the 51 nocasters. It doesn't say HW on mine but I've bought a set of Josefina handwounds in the past just to compare, but surprisingly my stock ones are so much the sweeter, fuller, gnarlier as well. I'm grateful to hear from you, now I know I can achieve the tones you demo, apart from your lovely amps of course. I like the way you present, be it in your channel or Thomann's. This one in particular about the tones is a brilliant idea and put together very well. Well done, and wish you all the best in what you do. Rock on!

I did a wine tasting course once where the instructor would show us how to approach the wine, what to look at, smell, how to notice flavours, how it might be perceived differently over time, etc. But at first didn’t name anything. Got us to write down what we thought and then explained how the professionals described that wine, getting us to align our perceptions and personal vocab with the professional vocab. I’d love to see something similar done for guitar tones, focus on how to really notice and attend to the details of sounds yourself, naming your experiences with your own words, and then explain what that gets called among the pros so you can communicate with others effectively.

@murph1381Ай бұрын

@CentaurusRelax314Ай бұрын
I'm just starting this and hoping the "woody" section resolves some of my questions. I actually bought your string brand/gauge recently, hoping to get some of the "woody" characteristics you often demonstrate.... In a Part 2, i'd like to see how you would *create* certain tones that are not just about buying a specific device (fuzz pedal, for example). With the *woody* thing, if you grabbed any random Telecaster off the wall, strung with Fender strings, and plugged into a Deluxe Reverb-could you get it? How? What specific changes would you have to make to get there? Strings, EQ, type of pedal, speaker, change the amp...? I think we can all figure out how to get a _scooped_ tone, or _mid hump,_ etc. But, some of these descriptions are more esoteric and ethereal-those are the tones i find most interesting and often most unattainable.
@KrisBarocsiАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment! As for the woody sound: I found it easiest to get there with a specific pedal, as shown in the video. The Pelion is a prime example of that but I'm sure there are other great Klon style pedals that do that. Strings, guitar type and amp are usually not enough to fully get there, a cool boost could also help but I've found the K style circuit to be the sweetest solution for the woody tone.
@CentaurusRelax314Ай бұрын
@@KrisBarocsi Thank you, sir. I'll try my Wamper Tumnus Ge, but i think you've done it with other setups, that didn't include a klon-type pedal. I used to think it was in the Rev amp you commonly used, but it's here in this video, too.... Oh, well. The hunt continues.

Hey Kris, Cool Video, thank you for this!! Really good explanation and inspiration on how to archive these sounds! I am often trying dialing in a sound that has multiple types of the sounds you are describing. But I guess, I will never find it. :-) What would your approach be for this kind of a scenario. Sweet means something specific to guitarists, and I haven’t figured out what it actually means yet lol.
