I wonder how long an NFC tag can be ‘good’ for. Do they degrade like magnetic tape can? The coil loosing power over time? Y2K-style processing glitches? It’s interesting.

The coil is metal, so I think it degrades at the rate metal would degrade? Much longer than magnetic tape, I'd assume. The actual information is stored on a microchip. Not sure what the lifespan of that would be. If anything, degradation might lead to bits getting flipped and the data being corrupt overall.

But, how do the things youre using for scaning the nfc chip knows what the nfc chip does? Is It because It has different paterns?

Good question: NFC tags store some code on them that tells the device what to do (open some website, share contact, etc). Some NFC tags can be overwritten with new code. You can usually do that with "NFC writer" apps on the play store. There's no visual difference with changing the code, it's all stored in a chip.
