1,500 teenagers visit Oporto’s Holocaust Museum on anniversary of Kristallnacht, or Night of Broken Glass. The students came from schools all over Portugal.
Kristallnacht was a pogrom against Jews carried out by the Nazi regime and German civilians. It was the prelude to the Final Solution and the murder of six million Jews during the Holocaust.
The Oporto Holocaust Museum has cooperation agreements with hundreds of schools across the country. It receives around 40,000 children a year
The teenagers lit a flame in the museum’s Memorial Room with the names of tens of thousands of people murdered.
An exhibition related to the “Night of Broken Glass” was presented by the director of the Museum. His family fell victim to Nazi atrocities that Night of Broken Glass. All the windows of his grandfather’s shoe store were violently smashed. Many shards of broken glass littered the streets after the windows of Jewish properties were smashed.
Currently, antisemitism is on the rise across Europe and beyond. Once again, Jews don’t count.
Jews are not among the minorities to be protected as they are seen as white, rich, and plutocrats with their own state in Israel.
