Everyone complaining about her picking up the cat, she lost me at the fact she not only started preparing this food within the tin and kept the biscuits in the paper cups, but then left everything inside the tin (who knows what quality the tin is.. and whether theres rust in it, or even tin particles..) When I was a delivery driver, I found out one of my customers allowed her dog to sit on the counter as she cooked. One day she cooked a whole pork loin for me as a gift so I wouldnt have to cook that day. I graciously accepted her sweet gift and later fed the neighborhood cats that night. There was no way I could eat ANYTHING that was prepared by her and her dog in that kitchen no matter how much I liked this woman. God bless her...

Yes, I'd put in a casserole or truffle dish then lay the cookies out (I wouldn't crush) then pour the eggnog over cookies, lay the fruit down, pudding then cook whip. It would be really pretty in a truffle dish layered.

A tip my grandmother taught me to make canned cherry pie filling taste more like homemade was to stir one tablespoon of sugar into it and add 1/2 to 1 tsp vanilla extract. As simple as it sounds, it really does transform and improve the flavor a lot.

​@SN-sz7kw exactly...canned cherry pie filling is already sickly sweet I fully recommend doing your own pie filling with canned tart cherries, its so much better and you can control the sweetness...AND, no corn syrup in it It might be a little more expensive but the difference is more than worth the little extra work

I can't wait to try this recipe, it looks yummy and I love eggnog! No one in my family liked it, and I wondered why I liked it so much. My Dad (who has since passed) moved to town about 20 years after he and Mom divorced. Once when I was visiting him, he asked me if I'd like some eggnog. Of couse I accepted and he told me how much he loved it, and that he always made sure he had it in the house during the holidays. Mystery solved....now I knew where my love of eggnog came from! Now, when I'm enjoying my eggnog during the holidays, I'm always rhinking about Dad.

I think she was operating on the idea that the eggnog would be contained by the paper cups long enough for most of the cookies to absorb some of the liquid. If she had removed the papers first, the eggnog would go straight to the bottom of the tin and only the bottom layer of cookies would really absorb it. A better solution all around would be to break up the cookies into a flat layer (baking dish) and pour eggnog over all evenly.

I like the idea, too, of the one container dessert. And I agree with the others who said that they would remove the cookies from the tin. I would place them in a food processor to get a nice blended eggnog crumble for the crust and place it in a glass pie dish. Then follow her recipe minus the cat and the cheeries. I'd replace the cheeries with strawberries. Just my preference. Thanks for the idea! 👍🏽

This is really cute, and probably tastes delicious! Would take the papers off first since you’re crushing them up. That way they don’t soak up any of the eggnog and make a mess, and no paper accidentally gets stuck in there. Lol. Also, I would make real whipped cream and stabilize it with a tablespoon of cream cheese. I just don’t like cool whip, but for those that do, have at it! It’s a really great idea for a pretty and fun dessert! 😃👍🏻🎄🥰

Certain types of metal like stainless steel are safe in the fridge but tin cans are not. I would guess a made in China cookie tin is not safe to eat anything moist out of and probably not a great idea to refrigerate either. 🙄

I think she realized that she should have taken the aper out first by honestly, the cookies soaked better sitting in the paper cups and better to crush the cookies after soaking than before soaking.
