@@joanlowder1376 I’m new to all the fun my self and It becomes a serious passion. Or. addiction ! :( not a bad thing as long as you don’t get to the sell pitches that every art supply out there is promised to make your art better or if you just get this paper or this watercolor and this brush is the magic one. Stick to good Paper and professional grade paint and practice practice and then practice your practice. That’s the answer. Good luck. This has only taken me three years a several $$$$$ to get. But I’m slower than you smarter people. :) good luck.

Kristen, Hi ~~ I appreciate your teaching style So much ~ there’s an organic flow between saying/doing/seeing. I am so grateful for your post of this gentle play with discovering the myriad ways of seeing Trees! I was kind of asking the Universe for a gentle, meditative, open watercolor exercise to do today and tomorrow instead of being so anxious about the election and the very next window that opened on my laptop was this! Many, many, many heartfelt thanks ~~ It’s lovely and so filled with possibilities for beauty. Best to you and all you cherish, Robin (Edgewater, MD)

@@kristinvanleuven Kristen ~ I’ve only been learning drawing & watercolor for about 6mos after many years teaching CreativeWriting/Poetry~~I specifically chose Watercolor as a genre because it has so many unpredictable variables ~ so it seems the moment of adding pigment & water to paper begins a conversation of sorts. And it works against my ingrained perfectionism! One of the reasons I’m so drawn to your teaching style is your openness to possibilities and like me, I think that finding unexpected beauty is part of what brings you real joy.

Great tips, thanks! Thinking about how I can apply this to other shapes than trees, or example in architecture you could do columns like this instead of tree trunks. I want to try doing this over the top of a dried layer of sky and sea. I live in Florida, so I will be trying this approach with palm trees!
