Found the salad video you recommended among few other salad videos. 😁. I am leaning definitely towards sb900 since I won't use it a way that overheats. Found second hand mint condition (full pack) 110$, but they go as low as 60-70$ depending on condition (here in China). Thank you again for your effort!!!

Yes, get a low-priced SB-900. It will also give you an idea of whether you can handle its size or not. Because of its high power, you can use it with portable small diffusers without worrying about loss of power through the diffuser. Just never shoot it in high fps and never increase its power above "0.00" in the menu. Its default power is already very high.

@@CameraMystique It will be my first Nikon flash. Have some diffusers, but usually prefer to bounce light indoors. Definitely will not shoot in burst, and if it happens will be short. Thank you again. Maybe Idea for next video about tripods. Have Manfrotto 055 with Manfrotto ballhead and quick release plate. Anything you would change on this setup and why?

a) Don't bounce flash (you're losing 1 stop at least, and you're picking up the ceiling color. And if the ceiling is in the picture too, it looks like the apocalypse. b) I'd get a monopod. I've been using it 90% of the time nowadays. I also switched to arca-swiss because the quick-release always had some "play", it was never snug enough. No need to change the tripod if you're happy with it.

@@CameraMystique I am happy with tripod, but the "play" you mentioned I was not sure if its only on my copy or it is quite a common issue since no one mentioned in reviews.

@@miloradkaravidin8818 Quite common. Very annoying when I have to take the same frame in a different aperture or when I take panoramas. That's why I switched. I'll explain in a dedicated video.

Amplitude of your voice was fine. No issues. I was going to ask you why you chose a DX lens, but you answered that. I realize that without using Nikon's E3 setting in the D850, you are using shutter speed (more precisely HSS - high speed sync) to reduce the amount of ambient light - just as you would slow your shutter speed to let in more ambient. Of course, you can always bring your light source closer to your subject, and increase the distance to the background. Question is: (I haven't gone back to Thom Hogan's book yet), when you use E3, and use flash compensation reduction of 2 stops, what is actually occuring to make that happen? The results you got seem to be different than just zooming the flash head. Yes? What are the mechanics that make this happen when using that setting? - okay, got that off my chest (LOL) now time to watch the rest of the video.

Just more shutter speed. Nikon speedlights sync up to 1/8000 (obviously with less light as shutter speed increases, but still enough). So: you raise your shutter speed, and the ENTIRE image goes darker. And you use the flash to compensate. Flash will only light up items that are close to it. The background (further away) will be darker.

The noise distribution seems better in an analogue MF camera. That’s why some still use the D700 for portraits and for the 12 Mpix that do not shows all of the skins problems. It’s shall have more of an analogue camera felling. I prefer to have the picture ready in the camera and do as little as possible in PS. I can use ND grad in LR if I not use one when I take the photo but it still not as great as a filter on the camera. I'm waiting for the Z8 before getting a D850. I'm already have a list of 12 t$ for three lenses and a used D850. The Z8 may cost 4500$ so it must be a god landscape camera (55-67 Mpix) and have a FTZ adapter If I shall get it instead of the D850.

The D700 is a digital camera. It just has big pixels that have better noise pattern and "older school" picture profiles.

@@CameraMystique The low light performance seems to be as good on D700 and D800E. So its not only the aria of the light sensitive diode in the sensor. A back-illuminated sensor have a better low light performance than the earlier versions. I will not press D700 or D800E higher than 500-800 ISO. Due to the cost increase this year and lack of compensation in income force me to focus on getting a 2nd hand D850 after the two F2.8 VR zooms. I will therefore wait a few years before upgrading to the Z8. I think I will be good with my current equipment until I take pictures on a regular basis.
