It might sound like that if you consider Kronii's side only, but then also consider the other perspective. The teacher probably already isn't able to get someone else for the time slot within 72-hour window, let alone 48. Why should they refund you if you don't even give notice within the 48-hour one?
@hello-im

@Riwillion
@Riwillion Ай бұрын
@@hello-im Well that is very much a matter of opinion, but also, depends on the context. Is the person fully booked? How long in advance was the date booked for her? How long in advance do you then need to cancel to be refunded? All these imo matter. If you cancel 10 minutes ahead of time, cool, but lowkey useless. There is 0 chance of the teacher to fill that slot at that point, and the best they get out of it is an unpaid, unscheduled break from work. At the end of the day, you agree to some terms with the person you are paying, and both of you have to abide by those rules. If they refund you beyond what those rules state, good on them, good for you, but you can't expect them to do that.

In my experience, there are two types of coaches who handle it like this: 1. Very reputable ones who are genuinely overrun with students and have to value their time. Still difficult to handle them when they're like this, but at least somewhat understandable. Although realistically most of them should just increase their base prices to compensate for cancellations, or improve their scheduling so they can still use that time. 2. All-around awful ones. The kind who only care about 'running a business', not what that business actually does.

This perfectly sums it up lol Some people in the comments are still calling this a "teacher." They're mistaken-this is just a person trying to run a business... into the ground, because they don't care about the value the business provides, just that it runs and it makes them mahney. 🤑 And you don't treat business like people. Respect yourself as a customer of that business, and get out of there. Plenty of other businesses to choose from. I still feel like going to a business to learn artistic skills like singing is the wrong-or at least far from the best-approach, since artistic skills (especially singing) are more of a framework that is ultimately soul-based, sense-based, and inspiration-based. NOT task-based. There is technical stuff to learn and remember, but they're there to augment and enhance your ability to express yourself, so they should be there to aid and nurture that instead of being the main focus. "Finishing Tasks" shouldn't be the main focus, but training your musical sense AND having fun in the process definitely is. After all, there's no point doing it at all if you ain't having fun. This isn't about productivity, but if you have to make it so, sometimes the most productive thing to do is nothing at all. I'd still try to learn from an expert to avoid common mistakes and get cool professional tips, but I could never continue doing it if I don't like doing what I do. Ironically some professionals rob people of that inspiration rather than giving it to them. And I'm saying this after checking out a bit of DokiBird's recent "learning singing" stream. She had a friend who's also a Vtuber teach her the basics and give her some exercise, but they're just having fun and it's really cute to watch. I feel like that's the ideal way of doing it. Or you could do it like Gura! That prodigy shark mostly learned by herself before even joining Hololive because she absolutely LOVES singing. Taking lessons later on certainly must've helped, but it surely didn't add much to her love for music, singing and rhythm games, which was already so immense. Kronii sounds like she hasn't found that spark yet, but I'm sure it exists within her somewhere. She was still a naive clockwork woman who thinks in terms of mechanical logic like money = service = value therefore "if you just spend money to pay for lessons then you'll learn something valuable," or something along that line, but I think she learned a different lesson now. Hey, maybe even ask Gura for a singing lesson? Do it on stream? Make a game out of it? Now that would be fun.

The cases my attorney who was our professor in Univ, always tackles about one party misunderstanding or sometimes missing the terms and conditions on the contract they enjoined with to a company or government. While it's nice that Kronii's old teacher is accommodating of a possibly erratic schedule, a 48 hour notice to reschedule/cancel an appointment or lesson is EXTREMELY common. The logic being, that vocal coach is setting aside time in their day to give their full attention to their student, and if that student can't make it, then that appointment slot could have gone to someone else who would have definitely show up. The teacher might not be able to afford no-show students if they have a busy schedule. That said, if Kronii didn't misspeak and she did ask to cancel an appointment OVER 48 hours in advance, and that was denied despite their policy, that's absolutely a good reason to drop a teacher.
@LegacyStar

Yeah, it's a reservation of time. If you cancel, then the owner gets nothing, and the time could have gone to another customer. They can't really just call someone else who made a later reservation and ask them to come in to fill the spot on short notice. That's a lot of rescheduling, so they tend to require you to prepay for the time slot. I remember early in the year, Calli rented out a place for the EN to do some activity together, but she left her phone with the info in the taxi she took, and couldn't get the phone back, so she just had to eat the whole cost of it since no one could help her. Not quite the same, since she wasn't able to give any advanced notice, but the reasoning is mostly the same.

These are skilled professionals and their time is valuable and they need time to make their money back by giving somebody else your timeslot. Once you get to the point where you gave them the 48 hours notice and they still charged you though, that's obvious bullshit. Functionally what that means is there never really was a 48 hour policy. I've been a teacher myself and I understand you want to take advantage of your time the best way you can (more classes, more money) but the moment you are incapable of showing empathy to your student and you only care about the money, that's the moment were you should quit teaching and get yourself involve in somenthing profitable. Sure doing it via vid call or whatever is an option but vocal training is one of those things that's better in person plus for members like Kiara or Blaze they're the only member in that part of the world so Cover really going to bother with hunting for a vocal trainer for one member vs somewhere like US and Canada where finding a training means you've just found one for a lot of the members

Sometimes it's better to just move on and not waste any more of your time. @@GrEEnF1Re1I agree that the clock woman tends to create her own problems, but you're looking at things no deeper than the surface. Picking this particular teacher for her lessons might have been a mistake, but you're clearly picking the wrong side to defend, too. It's on Kronii for not opting for a more authentic, natural learning choice and instead relying on a business owner for professional lessons, but this business person was clearly not doing it because they value things like inspiration and fun-they were in it for the money. You can get all technical all you want to try and defend the policy and you wouldn't be wrong from that perspective, but you're missing the point of the whole thing, much like the professional "teacher" and perhaps, even Kronii to a lesser extent. Now that is kinda ironic, which I hope you see-because it's obvious to the rest of us.

@danieljonsson8095
@danieljonsson8095 Ай бұрын
I can understand the frustration about being inflexible. But you also have to consider that 48h is very short notice to schedule someone else in. And that's the same for the reschedule. Like they may already have a full schedule. Neither a "no rescheduling" or "48h notice of cancellation" policy is in any way rare or all that harsh... While you may not know what happens in your life 48h in the future, you CAN know if you're available during a certain timeslot that far in the future, barring sickness or freak events like a meteor crashing into your home. And you can also look at it from a business perspective. Say the full time is 40h a week. Your wage is say 1000 a week. That costs the business about 500 in costs to pay that wage, and might have say an additional 1000 per week in additional costs for equipment and/or location. So that's 2500 a week that the business has in costs. That cost is there regardless if there's any clients or not. That means the hourly rate, must average 62.5/hr to break even. You probably can't book back to back, and there's some time needed for administrative work as well, so they're gonna have to charge say 75/hr with those costs. That means that if you cancel, and they can't cover your booking with someone else in the timeframe they allow you to cancel in, then you're quite literally costing them money... So, the cancellation window is generally based on how long does it normally take in order to be able to schedule something else in. In high demand services like plumbers, electricians etc, the demand is so high that you can schedule it on the spot. Hence no cancellation period is required. For other services though, 12, 24, 48, 72 are all very common. Week and month are also not unheard of but I wouldn't say common. That'd be more like specialty stuff where you'd take on longer projects at a time, like say there's a driving instructor in my town here that do 2 week intensive training courses that have a month cancellation. Point is, if Kronii can get someone else that works better for her schedule, or rather inability to schedule, then good for her. But blaming the teacher as many of you in the comments are doing, is just childish. Grow up. That's how the real world works. People you employ are not going to be spending a lot of money on you just to keep you as a client. That's not how that works. Like Kronii here says she's been taking lessons for half a year. Ok, let's assume those lessons are say 2h per week. A normal profit margin on the above example would put the hourly at 80 or 5 in profit. So that's 10 per week in profit margin. For 6 months, that means 26 weeks, so a total of 260. Kronii cancelled twice, so had they not charged for that, it would instead be 240. Now each hour costs the business 75. 2 hours per week, 2 weeks, means 300 in costs... See why they can't just be nice and just not bill those two sessions? Just those 2 sessions across the entire 6 month period, would cost them more than the entire profit that Kronii brings. That means that Kronii would be a cost as a client, not a gain.
