I find comparison videos for musical instruments like this interesting, but they are subjective. It’s like comparing a Fender Stratocaster to a Gibson SG. They are both fine instruments in their own right. However I do find the comments on here immature to silly…why? Cause unless you own both instruments you are always going to be biased towards the instrument you use. All musicians do this, whether you’re a guitarist who likes a particular amp, or effects box, or a drummer who likes a particular cymbal. What you must remember it’s down to your playing style and the type of music you want to play. I own a Korg Kronos 88 and think it’s great, however I love the Nord too, it’s just the Korg suits my style of playing and the music I want to play/make. So please less of the synth bashing because you own one keyboard and want to justify your purchase to yourself, because at the end of the day it’s about the style and the music you want make/play, not about which piano, or Rhodes sound from a Korg, or Nord is better.

I prefer the Kronos, but you are right... it is subjective, and in any case, I think the Kronos is just employing an effect the Nord isn't. I prefer the physical layout of the Korg too.

Not sure why people say the Korg piano is missing something? Sounds warmer w/ more reverb/resonance which is what I associate w/ a real piano vs. a synthesized piano. Can someone point out what the Nord has instead of just saying "it's totally obvious the Nord is better and people who like Korg are deaf"? At least quantify it instead of saying "it sucks" ;-)

I have both these keyboards for different reasons, and equally they are beautiful but very different. The Korg is a workstation and the way it is used to is vastly different to the Nord which is geared for stage performance. Of course they both are great sounding keyboards and I would not say anyone who likes korg is deaf, anyway the as i stated earlier these two are different beasts and should not really be compared in my opinion.

I agree with Lee Hayes. They're both different beasts! If you're like me and don't need a workstation but more so a performance board, go with the Nord. Plus if you like playing organ sounds, the trigger points on the Nord will adjust when playing organ patches to create an organ-like feel. It's so cool. The vast selection of pianos is also a plus!

To my ears, the Kronos sounds very 'Hollywood'.. it sounds very good and very polished. When comparing with the Nord it feels as if the Kronos sound has a bit more 'makeup' on.. not necessarily a bad thing... wheras the Nord sounds more 'nude'.. I think it would be easier for an average player to sound expressive on the Kronos, while one could risk sounding a bit 'flat' on the Nord. For the good player I would think using the Kronos you would have to like sounding like everybody else.. in other words, it sounds to me as if you could potentially express yourself more with the Nord.

After I bought the KORG, I was not sure whether I made the right decision... I clearly liked the sound better than the NORD's but.. the handling is quite complex and it took me a lot of time to understand and handle the endless possibilities of KORG. - Today I love it and I am happy with my choice..the investment in learning pays back! Just fantastic!

Essas comparações devem ser feitas às cegas (só com áudio), aleatoriamente e, idealmente, contra o som de um piano real e não apenas de um contra outro. Além disso, não se deve julgar o som simplesmente como bom ou ruim. Às vezes, "artificial" é justamente o que se procura.

well by reading all these comments...people can be biased to certain brands...and it is also personal preference. I am a drummer, and a keyboard player. People fight over brands etc. They both sound good in different aspects.

Kronos needs effects to sound good. I've owned the Electro 73 (without any effect section), and like the Stage it sounds great in the mix even without effects. The Wurli 200A is bit disappointing though in the Stage. Consider the size and it's 1 nob for 1 operation and I prefer the Stage over any stage piano i've ever owned.

To me the Nord pianos sound a little thinner and the Korg Kronos pianos sound a lot richer. But that's just me. But as people have said, don't rely on KZbinrs to put up comparison videos so that you can make up your mind. The only way is to actually go to a music store and try the keyboards out for yourself. End of the day everyone is different. Also don't forget, the Korg pianos are physically modelled, whereas the Nord pianos are sampled, not to mention that the Nord is a stage piano hence the Stage in the name, whereas the Korg is a fully fledged workstation, which is also designed for performance but you get the point.

I'd take the Kronos over the Nord, and I own both a Kronos 73 and a Nord Stage88. I just bought it cos its red :). I also have a Kurzweil K2500XS and to me the Kurz beats both for keyboard feel and sound!

I listened as carefully as I could...three times on different days. The Nord is certainly a better cost purchase and lighter to gig with...and a most worthy keyboard. However....the Kronos lifted my ears off of my head on its AP piano resonance depths...AND its voluptuous stunning Hammond emulations. WOW!!!. My experience [on this demo]...is like comparing a cheap toy to a Lamborghini. MY comments could be [maybe] totally redundant if the Nord was tweaked [if possible]. I suspect the comparisons are ...VERY unfair...since the Nords are extremely well regarded boards...but the Kronos's have 'huge built in architectures'. This is a game changer for me. Yet, I am NOT going to carry around a brick like the Kronos...OR SPEND ALL THOSE DOLLARS ON IT. Yeah I want it, still. I just purchased a SK1-73 because I always had Hammond monsters when I was a younger dude. I do respect everyone else's views on these boards.

According to this review in first two registers korg sounds way more sticked to the original i mean modeled based on more flat acoustic response and so on sounds definitely more analouge and on the other hand when it comes to the third patch nord comes up with a unique boost with its synth sounds...which makes me thinking would korg be really unnecessary to buy if nord would have been modeled a bit flat for acoustic modelings by frequencies, dynamics and stereo imaging but again it made me reailse a comparison should be with in a perspective suggesting like we all listened astounding modeling synths but the synths were coming from the very synth...:D itself and again which makes me thinking what would it be like if we were listening a real steinway or a hammond itself i mean apart from tons of accurate miking issues. So my desicio - since those patches are almost basic accessories - is to buy a more economic synth to get those pianos and definitely buy this nord as well.

Kronos has more sounds and easier "edit-ability", and might be easier to function and setup with splits and everything you need for a gig..also you get more sampling space. I would prefer the Kronos for my setup if I were to choose. The factory sounds of Nord though, are a bit warmer and more natural. You can edit those factory presets in Kronos further and get such results, as its effects are the best in a hardware workstation.

as someone said, this quite a pointless comparison. The Korg Kronos is a massive workstation that does almost everything well; the North Stage 2 is first of all an electronic musical instrument, with great samples and excellent keyboard mechanic, that is made with live playing and portability in mind as priorities. besides, I have some perplexities about the choice of samples used or, perhaps, the quality of the recording. For example, I am quite sure that the North have better grandpiano samples than the one that has been used...

Kronos sounds more like a real piano because its sound is fatter, has nuances, you can hear the piano construction resonating. Nord has a very good initial sound, as good as kronos or better, but the resonance is thin. I would give it to kronos.

Anybody got any comments about the feel of the Korg kbd vs the Nord? - the Korg fully-weighted feels too heavy/stiff for me....(but I'm no expert!)

I demo'd the Kronos X88. It is indeed a heavily weighted keyboard. I ended up with the 61 key version (synth action) since I don't have much need for piano sounds. I would say though that the Kronos has the ability to greatly tweak each sound in greater depth ergo you can lose yourself in that aspect for days - a good thing to me for my liking. When we give our opinion on an aspect of these boards it is exactly that - opinion. We inherently all hear subtle differences at different points. Suffice it to say - it depends on what you do or can hear as a difference and so results as your opinion. Dimitris Ch (below/next comment) hits it right on the nail.
