When KRS-ONE spoke of real Hip-Hop he knew he was speaking of himself, considering he was the complete essence of it. By far the number one lyricist of his time, which was the time of true lyrical genius. I know it was a great slice of good fortune to have been a teenager during this golden period. Able to be subscribed the incredible magazine Hip-Hop Connection. Able to go down town to the amazing independent record shop, full of vinyl racks and walls of cassettes, dedicated to the Hip-Hop of this time. The feeling of reading the album reviews and then being able to find them in store, freshly imported, was beautiful. This sacred lyrical prowess period is why I became the poet I am, because I fell in love with smart wordplay.
