I'm 70 years old and have five bikes. I've been riding since I was about 13 years old. I of course don't do stunt riding but I also don't wear boots (feels just too clunky). I wear armored sneakers, I can feel the foot controls better. I do wear armored riding jeans, an armored leather jacket. I wear an assortment of helmets (depending on weather, what I'm riding, how far I'm riding etc.) Hey you ride your ride the way you want not the way someone else is comfortable with. Just my opinion.

I'm a new motorcycle rider but very seasoned athlete. With my limited bike experience I can already tell that I appreciate the tactility that thinner surfaces offer on all the important control surfaces (throttle, brakes, clutch, shifter, and even seat). I can totally believe that this "lively" communication could make a huge difference in the ability to do advanced skills. I absolutely hate the feeling of being numb with no feedback. I hear your point, Man. For stunting it might be different. However motorcycle specific boots offer MUCH more protection and support for your ankle. The riding pants offer impact and abrasion protection. I have been in a bad wreck. Will not ride without my gear. I would be dead without my full face helmet.

There is a reason more people survive and have less injuries statistically than people who don't wear proper gear. I'm not gonna tell someone to though. Interesting discussion and perspective. I would be the last person to ever tell a stunt rider what kind of gear they should use, because for me, if I was to ever be doing a wheelie or trying to precisely manipulate controls from a standing upright position, that means something has gone horribly wrong and I would want as much armor between me and the outside world as humanely possible!

Plenty of racers are well aware of the rear brake, and YamahaChamp school has a whole focus on teaching people rear brake because of the myth that sport motorcycles dont really need a rear brake. "No rear brake" for racing is an outdated method, now days motoamerica, motogp, Isle of Man TT and especially the king of the batters they all have a very highly skill developed use of the rear brake. Yamaha champshool's ChampU has a whole teaching segment on just the rear brake. Kyle Wyman is a teacher/parisipation assistant at ChampSchool, the guy who rides SE's Road Glide for king of the baggers. He's a super accomplished superbike racer.

I took a motorcycle training course a few months ago to get an M2 License. It is a 3 day course that starts on a Friday night. Friday night is just a 3 hour classroom session and 90% of the time all that was talked about was the safety gear and helmets and boots. (One I think has to be dressed so one can go to the moon) Anyway the chief instructor mentioned that he once saw a guy riding a motorcycle with a tee shirt, shorts and sandals. He was shocked as in all of his 40 years of bike riding he has never seen anyone dressed like that on a motorcycle. (Now after watching this interesting video I am almost getting to think that the guy in the shorts may be the smart one.)

I’ve been riding since 1985. Started out on dirt bikes when I was 5, moved to sport bikes when I was 15, and been on Dynas since 2017. My biggest peave with people is them trying to tell me that motorcycles are dangers and advising me on what I should ride in and how I should ride…mind you, these are people that have never been on a motorcycle in their lives. I grew up on motorcycles, I live on motorcycles. I’m better at riding than am at walking. I’ve wrecked in every way possible, I’ve lost more friends than I can count, I’ve experienced just about everything you could possibly experience on a motorcycle. With that said, what makes anyone think they can advise me on anything motorcycle related, without having more experience than I have. What I have to say to those people… Kick rocks!!! This is my life, not yours!

When I wadded up my bagger doing well over 80, my shoes came off, my jeans got shredded and my tank top was gone. The good news is that your skin, finger nails, etc. grows back, so no worries ;). I still ride my bikes to the beach wearing flip-flops, trunks and a tank top. If I’m wearing boots and leathers, it’s because it’s in the 40’s or below. I don’t care what anyone says, comfort over safety rules the day . You want safety? Drive your car or truck and drink your beer out of a sippy cup.

I wish people wouldn't sugar coat things & beat around the bush. Don't worry so much about hurting someone's feelings and tell us how you really feel. I mean don't make us have to guess your opinion. Just be straight, we are adults & can handle it.

2 nights ago, I had to go recover a few bikes that went down after a bike on bike collision not long after leaving a bike night party at my shop. when we got there the cops told us to come back in the morning because this was now a criminal investigation, one of the riders was dead, and they believed alcohol, excessive speed, and horseplay was involved. Long story short... 5 out of town bikes riding drunk and dehydrated, all with passengers, speeding in excess of 90mph in a dark section of interstate, were about to miss the exit ramp, front 3 bikes decelerated quick, rear 2 bikes were distracted racing each other, collided with the front 3 bikes at the beginning of the ramp, everyone went down, 1 dead, 1 critical, lots of broken bones and dislocated shoulders. 2 brand new bikes totally destroyed, one of them charged with manslaughter. All were wearing "appropriate" gear and helmets. all the gear in the world wont save you from your own stupidity. I been riding sports and Harley for 30 years, never laid a bike down. Because I ride withing my own limits. Riding smart is more important than wearing all the crap they tell you to wear. I am now 45 and started wearing a full face helmet for the first time in my daily commute to work. People think it is because of safety, but the truth is because it is my entertainment center, I have Bluetooth in ears and I love riding with my jams on and blocking the wind on the interstate. also it protects my face from rocks flying off commercial trucks. otherwise I dont wear it when i am just cruising around. Today I was riding wearing shorts, and my chuck taylors.

I make the same argument about my modular helmet. Everyone wants to give me shit, because I "look like I should be on a goldwing" when I lift it up to say something, see something better, smoke, whatever. I just say " log 100,000 more miles and then ask me why I don't give shit if it looks goofy.

Hell yeah. Agree with it all. One thing that gets me as well is wearing all reflective. If you are to scarred to not be seen then you should not ride. I saw a guy last weekend wearing reflective full orange helmet, jacket, gloves and just a line of orange on his pants. What makes you think that will help behind a Street glide.

I just rock a icon rocket coat and icon full face with jeans and DC's. I've never seen jeans melt but I have seen them powder. An who an old man put me through his car years ago when he "didn't see me" and I feel the coat and pants helped keep the glass out of me. It comes down to people just need to do their own thing and enjoy their bike. Keep up the good work..

I had boots on. Got off work, jumped on the bike with my full face Shoei helmet. Head on collision with a full size chevy and landscaping trailer attached to it. Torn Aorta, either boots or helmet helped or assisted in the torn Aorta. Now both legs and feet were crushed. The boots actually made it tougher on emergency crews. Now my entire face was crushed. They cut me from one side to another on the top of my head towards the front. Pulled my face down and reconstructed my entire face. But what they thought was a miracle was no brain damage. I thanked the blessings of a full face and Shoei . All this said, doesn’t mean shit. Last I checked Ryan is a grown ass man. He can ride with whatever shoes he feels like. Also, he’s not going to your you tube channel and posting his stunt riding. He’s posting it on his. So if you dislike his non boot wearing ass, get off his channel. And he’ll get off your mom. 😂😂😂😂😂🤷🏼‍♂️
