Superb video and superb sightings. Goodness, the eyes of the Leopard are quite chilling. That was a magnificent male lion. It also seemed to be blind in the one eye, unless it was a trick of light. I have a soft spot for Malalene. I think that it is an underrated camp. That area is my favorite for drives of solitude with magnificent views.

I'm speechless. The always spectacular Kruger Park combined with your always spectacular photographic skills are the perfect match! Just brilliant. Thank you so much for taking me along on this journey Richard. I'm planning a trip to the Kruger Park next year after an absence of some five years and I'm already as excited as the proverbial kid in a candy store (and I'm 66 years of age 😏). Travel well.

I enjoyed this video and all of the videos on your channel. Can I suggest that you do one video where you give the distance to your subjects. The big male lion walked right by so no question there but I am hoping to visit South Africa in the near future and am always looking for advice on camera gear. Just giving the distance in one episode would take away the bias of camera “brands/systems” and allow for each to make their own conclusion. Keep up the great work, you are appreciated.

Amazing video Richard! Would you recommend camping at Malelane over camping at Berg en Dal? I've heard mixed reports about how much people actually enjoy the camp. Some say with the N4 and the sugarcane farms across the river, the camp lacks that 'bush-feel'. Would you agree? Does the location, size of the camp and chances of sightings make up for that?
@RichardvanHaght3 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! In general I do think the sightings are better when staying at Malelane Camp because you have access to the H3 before any other traffic. That is what made us choose to stay there. However you can hear the unnatural sounds coming from the town and it doesn’t feel like you are in the bush like it does at Berg en Dal. I have also found that if the area around Matjulu waterhole is providing good predator sightings then Berg en Dal can be just as good, if not better because less traffic heads in that direction.
@edwildlife28963 ай бұрын
@@RichardvanHaght Thanks for the feedback Richard. I have always wanted to give Malelane a go but have never actually done it, simply because Berg en Dal with its walking trail along the fence and huge gardens has always seemed like the better, more 'bushy' choice. I get how odd that sounds given the size and capacity of the camp compared to Malelane. I have booked two nights at Berg en Dal for early Jan, but now I am strongly considering changing to Malelane just to give it a try. Thanks again for the epic video and feedback!
@RichardvanHaght3 ай бұрын
I definitely agree with you, the Rhino Trail along the fence line and birds in the camp at Berg en Dal are tough to beat, it's a special camp with a lot of character. I will be there in two weeks. Not much shade at Malelane and no pool so not easy in the warmer months if you're camping... Appreciate it! I hope that this info helps!

I've watched all of your KNP videos and they are spectacular. My fiancee and I are headed to South Africa early October 2025 for our honeymoon and have been researching KNP religiously for quite some time. Your videos have been really helpful in planning, but I would like to hear your thoughts on recommendation for lodging/routes. The plan is to spend ~5 days in the southern end of KNP inside the park each day at the rest camps like Skukuza and end off at Arathusa for 2 days in Sabi Sands further north. Any recommendations for how long to stay at each camp and which routes/gates to use would be very helpful!!
