In April of 2023 we stayed at Tsendze for 10 nights. Tsendze, most probably our favorite campsite in South Africa, and it takes the top spot of all the SANPARKS campsites that we have stayed at before.
Arriving late at camp, we decided to just open the Campanion and chill for the afternoon
The next morning the Kruger magic started as we left the gate with a hyena waiting for us, and it did not stop there.
We absolutely love spending time with Honey badgers. And this time it did not disappoint us as the sighting was very relaxed
As with most days, especially when staying a long time at one camp, we tend to go on an early morning drive and spend most afternoons in a camp. There is also a lot to see right in your camp.
The second morning, we went out early at the gate opening time, and once again it paid off immediately.
A poor cub was not in the best shape, so we continued in search of the rest of the pride
We had a late breakfast at Shingwedzi, returned to camp, but decided to go and sit at Mooiplaas waterhole for the afternoon.
As stated on the Sanparks website - The Letaba Elephant Hall museum covers elephant evolution, biology, behaviour, ecology and research. It also showcases the ivory of eight of Kruger’s greatest tuskers (including six of the Magnificent Seven). It is a MUST visit when in the area.
We spend most of the afternoon around the swimming pool at Mopani, before calling it an early day.
The next day proved to be one of the best days, full of sightings, that we have ever had in the Northern Kruger
Even though we did not see a lot at Red Rocks, it was still one of the most scenic drives in the North. Luckily in the morning towards RedRocks we had a slow but very fruitful gamedrive.
We once again decided to go back to camp and not do a gamedrive. This was a holiday after all.
The Shipandani hide entertained us with calmness and proper relaxation so we decided to stay there up until sunset.
The male African jacana has evolved some remarkable adaptations for parental care, such as the ability to pick up and carry chicks underneath its wings. In this sighting the male kept the little chicks under his wings while a female fought off a lesser moorhen.
On our last day in the Kruger, we decided to do one last drive on the Tropic of Capricorn loop.
