We visited Kruger in June this year for four days with my family from Pretoria. They are not big on game drives, they are there for the atmosphere and eating out at the many fine eateries and picnic spots such as Afsaal, Nkuhlu and Tshokwane. We had lunch at Shalati, the train restaurant in Skukuza Camp where I had the best burger that I could remember for a very long time.
As a result we did not drive around a lot but we were still blessed with six lion sightings over the four days, two leopard sightings and many more memorable experiences as this video shows. The lions sightings were all good sightings but two were sleeping lions, basically in the road but not worth sharing. Two were action occasions, elephants chasing lions that got to close and one lions that became 9 as they emerge from the bushes, unfortunately not worth a capture.
Be that as it may, a visit to Kruger always deliver even if it is sometimes difficult to find animals. At the moment Kruger is very densely overgrown after two or three very good wet spells. There is water everywhere and small streams that are normally dry are still flowing, totally against the normal conditions experienced in winter when Kruger used to be very dry. In winter the animals concentrate around the permanent water sources but at the moment one finds water everywhere, every depression in the ground contains water and the animals are therefore widely dispersed.
