I really enjoy your reviews and like the fact that you explain what parts you are talking about. I bet many beginner sword enthusiasts won't remember what habaki or sori etc is. People can actually learn from you ;). It is also nice to see reviews from all price ranges. You could maybe do more cheaper swords? I'm thinking mainly about 300-500 range. It could help the beginners to get their first real swords. I guess you don't really buy much at that price range but would still be helpful. Comparisons between cheap and not so cheap swords would also be interesting. P.S. Your daughter is adorable, maybe let her participate in some of your videos, would be hilarious. :)
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I hope people can learn something or at least benefit in some way from the videos. Glad you found it helpful. As for less expensive swords, I do them as I get them. Most of the stuff I get is second hand so it is more affordable to review and I am limited by the deals I can find. I have reviewed a few sub $400 ronin katana, the hanwei practical plus, the hanwei raptors, a cold steel emperor, the windlass roven, the KC29IV, a starfire peice, something from badger blades, a zombie tools zakuzashi, and a tfw katana.. most of those are on the less expensive side... What kind of sword would you like me to review? I will keep a look out for it.. As for my little girl, the youtube comments so far indicate that I should have her do all the reviews..
@felldir8 жыл бұрын
Yes I have seen those reviews. I don't have any specific swords in mind but I just like seeing also cheaper swords professionally XD reviewed. It's the variation that makes your channel interesting. High and low end production stuff and also custom goodies. Your channel is still small so people who watch your videos actually care about the stuff you are talking about. As you get bigger it unfortunately attracts assholes. When that happens you definitely should never put your daughter in the videos. At least don't show her the comments. By the way I think these are my first ever comments on you tube. I normally just don't bother with thousands of idiots spamming profanity's everywhere.
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
You have a valid observation there. The youtube comments section is not known for good conversation but my experience has been positive overall. I am not sure what to expect with channel growth. It has stayed at a steady rate but its is slow in comparison to others. I'm not complaining though. I'm having a good time with it.
@felldir8 жыл бұрын
I'm actually surprised your channel hasn't grown more. It has good information and it's entertaining. What more do you want? Kind of surprised how other similar channels are a lot bigger. I find most of them quite boring...
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I'm not complaining about the growth. I am happy with it but admittedly I don't really know how to make it happen faster. I am guessing that the limited subject matter does not appeal to most people. Most of the other channels that have grown quicker talk about more topics than I do. The thing is, I don't think anyone tunes into my channel to hear me, I think they do it to learn about a specific product or something like that.

I hammered the habaki closed on my 47 Ronin. I hated the open holes in the bo-hi... So I made it match my Citadel ocean. It tapers from untouched by the tsuba to closed up as it reaches the end of the habaki at the point the blade begins to be exposed from under the habaki.

My first ~ $1k shinken, right now $1200 on KoA as a "Standard." Being a bit worried until it arrives, but the sword itself to me is just very nice and harmonius, hada is a huge plus, and the steel is good, like that it's not tiny and not super heavy or super light. Bo-hi looks good too, and often times I don't like its look.. Let's hope the ito is tight enough, habaki alignment is good on each side, nothing rattles and feels solid. I might use this sword to future upgrade tsukamaki with CottonTails, but will take a bit to save up, and hope the sword is good as is while I practice with it. Wish me luck : D

Really Great Review, I have been trying to decide on my first katana for a month now. I dont plan on collecting at this point, however its not out of the question. Its really hard to decide, and that guy that owns SBG pretty much just wants everybody to buy a ronin dojo pro, and I have been tempted, but the reality is I am familiar with hanwei , been looking at their stuff for decades, really not sure about Ronin, so it just gets more confusing as it goes . I really am just looking for the best all around sword that has the Musashi tsuba. Seems like your the man to ask given the swords in the background.
@Matthew_Jensen7 жыл бұрын
You can also buy a musashi style tsuba and put it on any sword you want... Might take a little dicking around but you could do it.

LOL, its a more common occurrence than you might expect but it does not often make it into the video. She makes up for it by being adorable though. There is more or better ways I could have done the video but the sword sold while I was doing the editing. I did not have enough time with it to swing it around n such.

Hi Matthew, I'm looking to buy my first katana. I'm debating between this and the Practical Plus Elite. Would you say this is worth the extra money and is the blade as durable and as powerful as the Practical Plus Elite?
@Matthew_Jensen2 жыл бұрын
I would prefer the PP+Elite for cutting tamai or bamboo.. Maybe even water bottles. I would prefer the Hanwei Ronin to do iaido or a zombie apocalypse
@ronniep92722 жыл бұрын
@@Matthew_Jensen thanks for the reply. Judging by your answer the PPE is the superior cutter, so what makes you choose the Ronin for a Zombie Apocalypse? 😁

Hanwei's are cool but do you have any opinions on the skyjiro kumo katana since it falls into the same general price bracket?
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I have had a few Skyjiro katana now and I think they are decent swords for sure. They are not perfect but they tend to do fit and finish a little better than some others in their price bracket. That said, I have not had the Kumo. Most recently I had the warlord and the domoe.

@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that.. Albions are made on a CnC machine and they have them.. Many other blades that are made on a lathe of some sort have them... I agree it has a sense of hand-made-nesss but it is just not good.. All the actual hand made pieces are cleaner. At least in the Japanese side of things.

I have holded one. Too thick handle, blade wide and finishing of the blade is just poor. Handling feels akward and is just not in there. Really 900 euros or dollars. It should be like 200. Face it it is low quality sword with just insane prize.
