Who else gasped audibly 4:51 when the ito moved that much? Surprised he gave that a pass, honestly.

That has to be a very old one. Never saw one before. Very cool. Dig the saya, and you had me at light and lively. Lol.

I’ve seen this sword, but never from Hanwei, even back in 98 when i got my tiger i never saw this as an offering of theirs. Mostly there’s a cheap version of this for about $140, though even through pics you can tell it’s not like yours. They don’t have the striped saya or folded steel. It definitely looks like k120c & the pattern & hamon finish plus the castings & cotton is distinctly Hanwei. I’m fascinated & slightly jealous. Lol great catch, thanks for sharing.

Great looking sword. Love the saya and the blade activity looks awesome. Thanks for the overview. I got room for it if it needs a home.

Hi Matt, would be neat to see a review of the Hanwei Yasukuni Gunto replicas.

Hi Matthew, thank you for showing this sword. It makes me proud that I own a few high end Hanweis and 1 Bugei sword with folded steel. With the sword in this video it the Tsuka to Tsuba reminds me of the Bushido, the blade Based on your description reminds me of the 30 Anaversary Musashi. I still enjoy the Ronin and the Bugei I own is the peace sword.

Can you review the Takeda Shingen? I have one and I’d like to see how it stacks up handling wise compared to this or something like the Orchid which I’m considering. Thanks Matt!

So with the ito being a bit movable, do you plan on remedying this? If so, in what manner? A re wrap perhaps? Or maybe a few coats of lacquer for a quick fix?
@Matthew_Jensen Жыл бұрын
Not sure yet. I will probably use it a while then sell it.

I’ve owned 2 Hanwei (1 now), and would buy this if they still made them. None of my stuff is used for cutting, but it all gets handled somewhat regularly so I prefer to start with a new piece.

Always find it odd every hanwei you review has loose ito but every one I've had is super tight and won't move at all. Seems to be a USA thing they ship the loose ones your way or somehow your climate shrinks the tsuka and makes it loose.

Not bad. You should train with a heavy blade It makes you stronger. Then lighter blade works even better because you’re stronger. Practice cutting and stopping the blade with a baseball bat. Explains why it doesn't feel heavy enough if it's not long enough for you. Did you hear the Ocean katana and ocean wakizashi are all sold out. 100 for katana and 20 for wakizashi. 😢

I train with a variety of blades but one of my main iaito is close to 4lb. That said, training with lighter swords is still more fun especially if I am doing it for a while. Burtha (my 4lb iaito) gets hard to move after an hour.
