Krups 880 not frothing milk (with solution)

My espresso machine suddenly stopped frothing milk. After some digging I found the reason. You only need a thin needle (thinner than I used in this video). Be careful, do not enlarge hole, otherwise your milk won't get warm enough. Watch and see the solution.

I have an old Krups Nespresso - Programic Model #554 and just started using it again after years of it just sitting on the counter, over a decade really. This time around I'm doing something new, I started today to steam milk for cappuccinos and didn't really know what the "frothing aid" was used for. It was in the manual but wasn't sure what it did. Thought it was just a handle, so why clean it?.... So now, after watching your video, I know exactly what it is and what it's used for and how to maintain it! Oh, I keep all my coffee machines clean and especially my Nespresso machine clean by always using "distilled water" only from day one! Thanks, you helped me a lot!

You are welcome! The idea is to let some air in while hot steam is heating the milk.

I found a krups 867 and I lost the top part, will it affect the milk frother? Also the metal nuzzle inside doesn't have a hole so I don't use it, how do I use it?

Sorry, but I don't know about Krups 867. I can just make a guess. If you mean you lost the water tank's cover, I would say it would probably effect the steam function, cause the system is a closed container. It needs pressure to froth. The nozzle should have a very tiny hole. If the machine is a used one, the hole is probably clogged. Better you clean it with a needle.

Merhaba, evet halen her sabah kullanıyorum cihazı. Eski bir model bu, ne zaman satın aldığımı bile hatırlamıyorum. Yenisini ben de görmedim TR'de ve Avrupa'da. Fiyatları konusunda bilgim yok. Toplamda 3 yıldır kullandığımı söyleyebilirim, bunu aldıktan sonra bir de kendinden değirmenli DeLonghi almıştım, uzun süre onu kullandım, bu cihaz yedekte kaldı. DeLonghi emekliye ayrıldığı için Krups'a geri döndüm. Birkaç kusuru var elbette, ama genelde iyi bir cihaz. Buhar musluğunun içindeki o-ring eskidi, yenisini bulamadım, başka bir o-ring taktım, artık kahve alırken buhar çıkış yerinden su atıyor. Sorun değil aslında, altına bir kap koyuyorum, ama kahvenin ideal demi için gerekli basıncı kaybetmiş oluyorum bu nedenle. Otomatik makinelere göre (içinde oynar parça olmadığı için) daha uzun ömürlü bir cihaz. İki ayda bir beyaz sirkeyle kirecini temizliyorum, o kadar. Başka bir bakıma ihtiyacı olmuyor, o-ringi saymazsak. İlk kullanımda motor çalıştığı halde su gelmezse çözümü var, panik olmayın. Hayırlı olsun şimdiden.

That metal piece goes into a hole that doesn’t go out to the other end. It does nothing except it’s something to hold onto. I don’t see how this would fix anything.

Yes, it sounds illogical. But frothing milk is all about mixing steam with some air. The blind metal tube that ends with that plastic cap we cleaned provide the air needed to froth.

Sorry to hear that... No idea where to find that rubber tip. Actually I don't use it anymore, I removed it. I watched some frothing videos from baristas and learnt that the metal tip should be kept close to milk surface, so that steam is mixed with some air. This way I can get thinner and richer milk foam.
