Him being over shadowed by his older I'm sorry his younger brother who is taller than him, his father sees him as a disappointment sometimes alongside his mother, he's responsible for most of the main shows shenanigans, he couldn't do a pull up or lift with his back. You can tell Rigby get his annoying attitude from his father.

I think Don moved on to a higher education which separated him from the two of them. Whereas Mordecai wasn’t much more successful than Rigby (because of the fake rejection letter) so they worked in the same place. Also I think Mordecai just knew Rigby longer than he knew Don.
