I just got the KS eTen for my XC hardtail - I really didn't have a choice between brands because my bike has the older 27.2 frame. I would agree with BikeRadar's assessment. That said even with the short amount of time riding with a dropper this is by far the best upgrade I've made to my bike. It is so nice getting the seat out of the way while descending, I feel like I can really fly with more control. I'm not sure how long it will last but for now definitely worth the $116 investment.

Your dropper post are still working?
@ronggearrob96224 жыл бұрын
@@JulioSanchez-kk9le I’m still using the dropper post. I had to replace the internal mechanism a little over a year ago - the part cost $35. All in all I’m happy with the post and can’t imagine riding without one. Not the lightest post, but good value for the money.
@craigo777 жыл бұрын
I have the ks dropper and all you have said rings true as an additional note i find it to be a lot more sluggish on return during cold freezing conditions.. But I still think it's great to have than not have a dropper post at all.
@SSEF157 жыл бұрын
I've got an RSP Plummet, it feels cheap and there's quite a bit of play in the cable, plus the cable going into the post has frayed slightly the minute I put it on the bike and dropped it. However, it works fine even through Welsh mud and crud, going to overhaul it soon to see if I can improve on the basic construction.

I'm thinking of getting this could I swap the cable out for a longer one?
@hunterdean117 жыл бұрын
I have the KS it's not light but it's been reliable, as for the cable route issues just cut the housings and run it through those silly old front derailleur cable guides.
@matthewzuniga1117 жыл бұрын
sorry to nit pick but on the KS, he routed the cable in the wrong direction, the flat cable end that you would put into your shifter goes in the remote making it flush and easier to depress. also i have the KS ETEN R the same one featured here and have only had problems with it not returning when it is super cold, i fixed it by using a lighter grease than the one it comes with, just some of my personal thoughts and experiences.
@bikeradar7 жыл бұрын
Well spotted! We don't think that would have affected performance, but it does look a little funny now you've pointed it out. Thanks for the grease tip too; we've definitely heard a few reports of KS posts being slightly reluctant to return, especially in the cold.

FastAce, DNM and Brand-X dropper post are quite cheap, tough built and have a little bit higher quality; especially the FastAce Dropper. One bonus (and also minus) point for the Brand-X is that it's only have the Stealth routing cable.

so expensive for technology found on an office chair which costs €60
@bikeradar7 жыл бұрын
Office chairs are rarely used to travel over rocky terrain at high speeds and get regularly covered in mud, hosed down, etc.
@sultanabran17 жыл бұрын
an office chair even swivels. the truth is, the mountain bike industry is filled with 3rd or 4th rate 'engineers' who make everything sound difficult or an innovation. except the difficulties they have are with things that have been sorted decades ago. their innovations are things that have been innovated decades ago. the wheel is reinvented so many times it's not funny. suspension forks, suspension shocks, hydraulic brakes, carbon fibre. after a couple of decades of rockshox and fox making mistakes and finally making good suspension, in come öhlins, a motorbike suspension manufacturer with decades of knowledge, and makes forks and shocks superior to established mtb bike brands, straight off the bat. if they simply took some lessons from actual experts, they'd save a lot of time and save us a lot of money in producing mediocre products. i like bikes, but us the consumers need to be a bit more switched on about what's really going on. it's our money they charge too much of.
@AndyWoodall7 жыл бұрын
If you feel so strongly about all these 3rd and 4th rate engineers in the industry, why don't you have a go at starting a component company and see how you get on. I wish you all the luck.
@sultanabran17 жыл бұрын
i'm not in a position to do that obviously. just cause i don't agree with the way an industry works, doesn't mean i go an join it with a brand of my own. you lack the understanding of what it takes to start a manufacturing company which is why you'd say something like this.
@CanIHasThisName7 жыл бұрын
And you clearly lack the knowledge of challenges the engineers face. Whatever technology you make, it needs to be light enough to be usable on a bike, sturdy enough to withstand the riding conditions, and then you also need the manufacturing capabilities to mass produce it at a cost that will make it a profitable product. Comparison to an office chair is ridiculous. And your precious Ohlins wasn't sitting on mountain bike suspension technology that whole time and they didn't come up with anything new. They brought their product AFTER the established brands had overcome all the engineering problems. In other words, their expertise did not help to push the MTB suspension technology forwards at all. They just joined the party after the research portion of the whole deal wasn't so hot. Yes, there are products which are clearly just an overpriced moneygrab (Procore), but claiming the whole industry is overcharging is plain stupidity and ignorance.

swapped my Thomson post for a brand x - the Thomson was in need of a service which would have cost in excess of £100 (not far off the brand x cost). it's internally routed, comes with a paddle (1x) style remote and a 2 year warranty. Yes it's a little heavier than the Thomson, but performance wise you wouldn't notice any difference on the trail.

@nerfherderdavid7 жыл бұрын
You have the remote cable on the Eten setup incorrectly. Ie the wrong way around. The cable 'bud' sits flush in the thumb piece ... the loose end is fitted with the cable clamp and sits at the actuator lever at the saddle head. You also can roll the position of the remote on the bars so as to eliminate having to lift your thumb over the bars are you described. Rolling the remote down makes the action more like a shifter.

I have the KS Eten on my trek x caliber 8, which I bought slightly used. Being on a small pension and SS..I can't afford a $300,00 usd dropper post, which would be about 1/2 the cost of my bike. While it may be not the best, it's far better than not having a dropper post at all, And having a 27,2 mm post on a 2016 bike that sold new for over 1000,00 usd is ridiculous imho. If I start saving now, maybe I can afford a better bike in about a years time.

I don't know. Hearing from riders all around the webs that these cheap droppers are very unreliable. And IMHO no amount of play in the seatpost is acceptable. Yes, these may be cheap compared to the "good" droppers, but to me, personally, that's way too much money to be spending on something that has proven to be unreliable. Dropper is definitely on my list of future upgrades, but the way I see it, it's still a piece of tech that has a fair bit of maturing to do.
